Weekly Roundup 11/25

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed advertisements, the Sunday of the week of release (so as to catch any week-of-release sale prices). All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price. If a price is marked "$_N/A_" in the grid, it means that this title is not shown as available on that chain's website or perhaps in their ads...but it COULD still be in-stores!

$_"LP" means the advertisement says "Low Price", and $_"HP" means the advertisement says "Hot Price". Use of either of these in the Roundup grid indicates that I could not locate a definate price for the item, and the ad is all I have to go on. Retailers use these phrases in advertisements so that they do not violate MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) agreements with the studios. Doing so can cost them thousands or even millions of dollars in co-op advertising funds.

I only include the titles I feel like including. In fact, the titles are pretty much the ones I'm personally interested in, with few exceptions. I don't get paid for this, and I don't have time to devote to doing every DVD. I have a lovely wife and a five-year-old son I'd rather spend time with. Please don't complain. If there is a title not included in the Roundup that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone...like I do!

Note that Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii. Also note that I cannot include Wal-Mart prices in the standard Roundup: Wal-Mart sets prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is not a way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart location. When it comes to Wal-Mart prices mentioned at all, just remember that "Your Milage May Vary".

* BE CAREFUL! Bruce Almighty & X2: X-Men United are each available in both Widescreen and Fullscreen versions...get the correct one. The X-Men/X2 Double Pack also comes both ways, incidentally; look carefully!

* In case it was lost on those of you who saw that last week's Roundup included Journey's Greatest Hits DVD, I got the street date wrong. This is the proper week for it to be included.

* Best Buy: Purchase The X-Men Collection and get The Abyss or Independence Day for $4.99.

* Circuit City: Buy X2: X-Men United DVD & "X2: Wolverine's Revenge" for PlayStation 2, X-Box, or GameCube and save $10 instantly with combined purchase. Nov 25 - 29 only.

* Happy Thanksgiving. I know some of you are hoping I'll do a "Black Friday" Roundup on Thursday. Sorry...nope. I will be happy to shoot the breeze like the rest of you about sale prices (and I know a couple of things already), but I won't do a formal "Roundup". Why not? Because 1) the Roundups are about brand-new releases, and 2) because it's all old stuff, every store will be doing different things. Oh, and 3) I'm staying home on Friday unless a SUPER-SPECTACULAR CAN'T-MISS-IT deal comes along. The deals I've seen so far just do not make it worthwhile to fight the crowds that morning. We'll see if something can change my mind, but I'll probably be on the excercise bike trying to get rid of the Thanksgiving poundage.

I've been meaning to pick up Independence Day, and I really want the X2 box, despite the fact that I already own the two previous X-men releases. If I were to buy X2 and Independence day it would run me about $30, but if I took advantage of this deal it would be about $35, and I'd get the cool box...

Aha! You should read my disclaimer at the top of each Roundup a bit more closely! I get those from their websites. As the disclaimer says, prices might not be representative of in-store prices (might not be, but usually are).

The Best Buy price of Dark Shadows Collection #9 was $43.99 in-store...a far cry from the $52.99 Roundup price which I got from the BB.com website!


Wal-Mart is selling Journey: Greatest Hits DVD for just $12.88! I got it this morning.

I also grabbed X2, Bruce, Chitty, and the Berenstein Bears discs at Wal-Mart, at the prices mentioned in ThaRapper's thread, as it so happens. Though my Wal-Mart had BOTH B. Bears discs at the price he gave ($14.73).

Additionally, I grabbed 6 items from the $5.88 bin. Great stuff at great prices...can't beat that!

Now I just have to find Queen at Circuit City, and I'll be all set.

Just got off the phone with one of the media managers over at BB. She said that the deal with X2 and ID4/Abyss is $6.99, NOT $4.99, but you don't have to buy the collection with both movies, you can simply buy X2, and get the deal. Hope this helps!

Hey they should have the orginal "Out of Towners" with Jack Lemon, in the $5.88 bin at Walmart. I think that every Walmart will have it. It is a Holiday 5.88 movie. If they don't try Walmart.com.

I just got back from Best Buy and I bought X2 with Independence Day. Funny thing was even though ID rang up as $6.99, my recipt shows X2 for $15.99 and ID for $4.99. Came up to just under $21 for both. Don't know if it was an error or just my lucky day.

They are the 1 disc reissues that regular for $16.99. I went to BB yesterday to try to get the 2 disc Abyss and X2 but the guy said it wasn't the right one.

Inside Chitty Chitty Bang Bang SE is a commerative booklet & a booklet of coupons including a $3 off coupon for Agent Cody Banks SE, The Basket SE, Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course SE, Princess Bride SE OR Chitty Chitty Bang Bang SE! I took my receipt for CCBB to CC & they reworked the ticket (since I had pricematched Target) & credited my Visa $3.54. If you haven't bought it yet I'd advise just opening it in the store (hell, you are going to buy it) & just present the coupon & save yourself $3.
