Weekly Roundup 12/23

HO! HO! HO! MERRY CHRISTMAS

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed advertisements, the Sunday of the week of release (so as to catch any week-of-release sale prices). All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price. If a price is marked "$_N/A_" in the grid, it means that this title is not shown as available on that chain's website or perhaps in their ads...but it COULD still be in-stores!

$_"LP" means the advertisement says "Low Price", and $_"HP" means the advertisement says "Hot Price". Use of either of these in the Roundup grid indicates that I could not locate a definate price for the item, and the ad is all I have to go on. Retailers use these phrases in advertisements so that they do not violate MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) agreements with the studios. Doing so can cost them thousands or even millions of dollars in co-op advertising funds.

I only include the titles I feel like including. In fact, the titles are pretty much the ones I'm personally interested in, with few exceptions. I don't get paid for this, and I don't have time to devote to doing every DVD. I have a lovely wife and a five-year-old son I'd rather spend time with. Please don't complain. If there is a title not included in the Roundup that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone...like I do!

Note that Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii. Also note that I cannot include Wal-Mart prices in the standard Roundup: Wal-Mart sets prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is not a way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart location. When it comes to Wal-Mart prices mentioned at all, just remember that "Your Milage May Vary".

__________TITLE__________ _ _Amazon _ BestBuy _ CrcCity _ Target_ _ Costco_ _ SamsClb
Alex & Emma (Widescreen)_ _ $19.57 __ $19.99 __ $19.99 __ $19.99 __ $_N/A_ __ $17.42
Anything Else____________ _ $18.89 __ $19.99 __ $27.00 __ $_N/A_ __ $_N/A_ __ $_N/A_
Jeepers Creepers 2_______ _ $18.89 __ $17.99 __ $16.99 __ $19.99 __ $_N/A_ __ $_N/A_
The Medallion____________ _ $22.92 __ $19.99 __ $19.99 __ $19.99 __ $_N/A_ __ $_N/A_

* BE CAREFUL! Alex & Emma is available in both Widescreen and Fullscreen versions...get the correct one.

The latest markdowns according to VideoTropics web site (DVD Title/Old SRP/New SRP):

None! But lots and lots of them coming after New Years'!!

A VERY short week this time, perhaps my shortest ever. Enjoy the break from emptying your wallet, and be safe this holiday season.

Gracias! Does anyone know if there will be a cheaper price for Jeepers Creepers 2? I wouldn't be surprised if Target had it cheaper than advertised, as they have done on several occasion (i.e., the ad said 19.99, in store it was on sale for 16.99 or something). Hopefully our Wal-Mart will have it for fifteen or less. If anyone finds a good price or if MGM has coupons, holla!

Thanks Unicorn. I can't imagine a shorter Roundup but then again I can't imagine a week with less new releases (& one where JC2 is the main attraction). Nothing for me. Happy holidays & thanks for all the 2003 Roundups.

Thought I would mention this special at Best Buy this week, in case anyone was interested. Now thru Dec. 24, they're selling the Indiana Jones box set for $49.99. That's not the special part: they're offering a $20 gift card (through a mail-in offer) when purchasing it. So essentially, you're getting the Indy box set for $29.99.

If anyone else has been waiting to get the Indy box set, this might be good enough incentive to pick it up.

Is that price for ANYTHING ELSE at Circuit City a misprint? Normally, CC has bigger discounts on new releases than that.

If it's a misprint, the error is at CC.com...I too was befuddled by the price.

The Medallion at that price?! ($19.99) They need to lower it if they hope to move any copies.

I found J.C. for $16.40 at Wal-Mart which was good enough for me. Pretty good movie, but as I watched some of the bonuses, I couldn't help but recount something terrible I learned about the director. I won't get into anymore than that, as its off topic.

Also, the same Wal-Mart had tons of dvds for $7.50. Some good titles, including Stepmom, Urban Legend, the Mary Kate and Ashleys, and tons of others.

Nothing for me this week, though Alex & Emma will be rented sooner or later. Thanks for your continued efforts Unicorn, even on crappy DVD weeks like this one and have a happy holiday!
