Weekly Roundup 12/30 (and 1/2)

A messy job? Well, that's when they usually call on me. Or someone like me. Oh yes - my name is Drake. John Drake (quote from Danger Man)

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed advertisements, the Sunday of the week of release (so as to catch any week-of-release sale prices). All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price. If a price is marked "$_N/A_" in the grid, it means that this title is not shown as available on that chain's website or perhaps in their ads...but it COULD still be in-stores!

$_"LP" means the advertisement says "Low Price", and $_"HP" means the advertisement says "Hot Price". Use of either of these in the Roundup grid indicates that I could not locate a definate price for the item, and the ad is all I have to go on. Retailers use these phrases in advertisements so that they do not violate MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) agreements with the studios. Doing so can cost them thousands or even millions of dollars in co-op advertising funds.

I only include the titles I feel like including. In fact, the titles are pretty much the ones I'm personally interested in, with few exceptions. I don't get paid for this, and I don't have time to devote to doing every DVD. I have a lovely wife and a five-year-old son I'd rather spend time with. Please don't complain. If there is a title not included in the Roundup that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone...like I do!

Note that Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii. Also note that I cannot include Wal-Mart prices in the standard Roundup: Wal-Mart sets prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is not a way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart location. When it comes to Wal-Mart prices mentioned at all, just remember that "Your Milage May Vary".

* BE CAREFUL! American Wedding and S.W.A.T. are both available in both Widescreen and Fullscreen versions...get the correct one.

* American Wedding also comes in the normal "Rated" edition, or the "Unrated" edition called the "Party Edition". This makes for 4 different possible items on shelves, and all seem to be the same price. Be careful and get the version you definately want. Wal-Mart HAS been carrying some Unrated DVDs lately, so give them a try.

* Don't forget that American Wedding and Tremors 4: The Legend Begins both have a street date of Friday, January 2, 2004. It should NOT be on shelves on Tuesday (though I know some stores have sold it for 2 weeks already).

* Circuit City is giving away a free T-Shirt with purchase of American Wedding...in-store only, while supplies last.

* Best Buy is giving away a free "can cooler" (those stryofoam things that keeps aluminum cans cool in summer) with purchase of American Wedding...in-store only, while supplies last.

* CircuitCity.com seems to have a misprice on Sex And The City - Season 5 DVDs! Currently it's in their weekly ad for $34.99, but at their website (right this second, anyway) it's $19.99! MUCH better a price for a lousy 2-disc set. I've pre-ordered mine, and used their free shipping to boot. I don't mind cashing in, and good luck for anyone else trying to get in on this before they realize their mistake (probably on Monday morning, so hurry!).

* Best Buy has their own Sex And The City deal, and it's the usal sort: Get Season 5 along with any 1 other season (for 2 total) and save $10. Buy 3, save $20. Buy 4, save $35, and buy all 5 and save $50.

The latest markdowns according to VideoTropics web site (DVD Title/Old SRP/New SRP):
-------------------------
• Land Before Time, The (Anniversary Edition) $24.98 $19.98

Thanks Unicorn for a great 2003 filled w/ Roundups--they have become a part of my Sunday routine. Picking up SWAT and AMERICAN WEDDING this week. Not a bad way to start off the year. Happy New Year to all!

Thanks Unicorn. I'll be getting SWAT at CC on Tuesday. Then I'll be waiting for Amazon to deliver the 5th different American Wedding release the 2 disc Gift Set (which also comes with a t-shirt). Best Buy has it for $30.99 on their website + 7% tax in Florida (not listed on CC website) but I got it for $25.19 with STL & SSS. I'd love to get both the Gift Set t-shirt & the CC one but I want the bonus disc. If it incorporates the Beneath the Crust 1 & 2 info (which I've read some places that it will) I'll have 2 Beneath the Crust discs to trade or give as gifts.

You're welcome, everyone!

If doing the Circuit City thing for Sex And The City - S5 is not to your taste for any reason, then be aware that I got a note pointing out to me that I missed Target's ad price for that set. It's $29.99, making it the best in-store price around.

That's a fine backup plan, if CC.com fails to come through for any reason. That's about the max I would have been willing to pay for it anyway...the extreme max. And it would have burned my britches the whole time.

I doubt CC.com will reneg, but you never know.

Wuz up,

Just a Head up. Walmart only had the Charles Angels Unrated because the Theater Version was "PG 13" so the Unrated made it a "R". The American Wedding will only be in "Theater Version" since it is Already a "R". Just to give you all a heads Up And Thank you for the Great job with the weekly Roundup.

Yes indeedy. These are the 39 half-hour episodes shown in 1960 completely under the name "Danger Man". Then there was an hour-long version of the show from 1964-66 that was called "Danger Man" in the UK, and "Secret Agent" in the US. It was also in black and white, except for the final two episodes that were in color (at that point McGoohan stopped on this show to start working on "The Prisoner"). The 64-66 series - all 47 episodes - can be gotten in a DVD MegaSet that A&E released this past August. Get that one, and this one, and your Danger Man fix will be complete!

NOTE ABOUT CC.COM's SatC-S5 PRICE: The price is now SHOWING $34.99 when you click the link in the Roundup. But go ahead and put it in your cart, and it still totals out there as $19.99...get it while you can, because they are obviously in the process of "fixing it".

Wal-Mart did NOT get the Unrated version of American Wedding (as Tharapper said would happen).

However, Target has it, in Widescreen. Targets "low price" for all four versions of AW is $15.99...best price! Even better than Wal-Mart's $16.14!

Best buy out by me had American Wedding with Can Cooler for $15.99. One thing though, the can coolers aren't on every package.

Stopped in CC today at 12:30 & the AW t-shirts were already gone. They said they got about 20 of them. Luckily I'm getting the Gift set from Amazon with a free t-shirt but I'm wondering if other people's CC received such a small supply of them.

Best Buy has American Wedding with the T-Shirt pre-bundled and a 2nd bonus disc which is a retrospect of the entire trilogy. I believe it was $29.99.

Also, those of you that might be interested in Tremors 4, if you buy that, there is a coupon inside where you can send off for a copy of Tremors 1 for free.

Flash Ahhh, that's the Gift set with a "Stifler style" t-shirt that Best Buy has. I've got the Gift set coming from Amazon (for about $25 with discounts, Amazon's since jacked up the price). The t-shirt at CC was a different one strictly put out by CC with the Unrated single disc extended party edition. When I got to CC they still had hundreds of copies with a sticker on them about the free t-shirt but they got about 20 shirts & sold out less than 2 hours after the store opened. It was a "while supplies last" offer but the amount they got in was ridiculously low.
