Never buy an Artisan disc early

As is normal practice with Artisan releases, they cut their prices to the bone after a couple of months. I would recommend that anyone interested in saving a few bucks hold out on their Artisan buys.

Examples:

T2: Extreme Edition - DDD is taking pre-orders on this for a price drop to $10.99 in February. ($29.98 MSRP)

Reservoir Dogs: Aniversary Limited Editions - $7.97 at DDD ($26.98 MSRP)

Total Recall: Special Limited Edition - $7.97 at DDD ($19.98 MSRP)

Glengarry Glenross - $7.97 at DDD ($26.98 MSRP)

Rambo: First Blood 2: Special Edition - $5.99 at Walmart ($19.98 MSRP)

Stargate: Ultimate Edition - $7.97 at DDD ($19.98 MSRP)

Young Guns: Special Edition - $7.97 at DDD ($19.98 MSRP)

Blair Witch Project: Special Edition - $5.49 at DDD ($14.98 MSRP)

and I'm sure the examples can just go on and on...

That sucks for those who bought early. But I think I may snatch

T2 - Extreme (if it is in the metal sleeve), Total Recall (i thought the tin was OOP), Stargate, Young Guns, & Blair Witch at those prices.

That reprice at DDD may NOT be the T2 metal sleeve, although that version can still be had for cheap.

The Total Recall tin IS OOP, but again can still be had. DDD blew theirs out for WAY cheap just a couple of months ago, now they are selling the regular keep case version. To be honest, the tin is a pain in the ass to store anyway, even with the retention of the cardboard sleeve.

Yea, I used to own it. (same with Basic Instinct) But sold it when I needed money. Why is the version you mention listed as the "Special Limited Edition" then.

Um.... 'cause I'm an idiot. Actually, I WAS writing about the tin, but I changed my mind to the regular SE and forgot to edit the heading when I was getting prices.

You might still consider getting some early.

-T2 Extreme Edition
Pretty sure the ones available now are missing the metal outer sleeve (probably a cardboard one)
-Reservoir Dogs AnniverssaryThe cool outer sleeves with the different characters have been OOP for a while now too. Everytime I see it for sale now it's missing that.

How lame is that metal outer sleeve? I almost had to pull the dvd out of the sleeve with plyers, and it ripped the plastic and damaged the spine of the dvd when I did so. The sleeve is too tight for me to fit the dvd back into it, and now the dvd case looks like crap. Did Helen Keller design this thing???

I believe they will send you a replacement case for the movie. I'm not sure since I never upgraded...I just kept my Ultimate edition.

DDD is offering both the 'Character Editions' and the standard 'Four Strip Cover.' Are you saying that the 'Character Editions' are missing their cardboard sleeves?

Keep in mind that Artisan was bought out by Lion's Gate recently, so it'll be interesting to see if pricing trends continue. There might be several titles that get the Signature Series treatment as they did for titles like Monster's Ball and Cube.

Yeah, but the Sig Series doesn't always mean anything. I blindly upgraded my Happiness DVD to the Sig Series when it came out, only to realize it was the same disc in a different box.

Maybe they are offering the slipcase then? I dunno. All the one's I've see at the stores though don't have any of the cardboard sleeves.

Lar- good luck getting the dvd out of the metal case, or managing to squeeze it back in.
