What type of experiences (good or bad) has anyone had with DeepDiscountDVD? Some of their prices (including shipping) are pretty competitive with other online vendors. What are their shipping times like?

I have ordered from them (using the ten percent off). They have emailed me and told me my shipment is on its way, and should be here tomorrow.

They are brand new, in case you didn't know. Also, if you take them another price, they will beat it.

Just a followup on DeepDiscountDVD with my recent experience with them --

I went ahead and pre-ordered Ben-Hur from them back in February -- at the time they had a great price ($18.50 delivered) for the movie. Ben-Hur was released on 3/13. On my confirmation e-mail for the order it said that the movie would ship "no later than 3/13/01".

On 3/15 I called them to see what was up and to check on the delivery status of the DVD. They said that they did not have it in stock yet!!!!!!!!

Well, the short end of the story is that they did not get the movie in stock until 3/20 -- one week AFTER the release date! Then, it took another 7 days for it to arrive at my house -- a total of 2 weeks from the original release date of the movie.

So, while they have pretty good prices on a number of movies, if it's something you "need" soon or want ASAP, this is NOT the place to order from. However, if you can stand to wait a little while (their shipping is extremely slow -- even on catalog/stocked titles), then they have good prices.

I have had similar experiences with DeepDiscount including the Ben-Hur release.

Like you said, they are new and trying to grow. They apparently did not do a marketing study comparing what other online DVD sites order for stock especially on pre-order items. I had been told more than once that they didn't expect such sales and ran out of stock and the warehouse was backordered by that time.

In the long run they do have good prices (bottom line) but are slow. They don't carry the inventory as mega sites do and many titles they don't even carry at all yet but will order for you.

I was having shipment problems and a series of conflicting dates sent by both automation and customer service. They made good on the inconvenience but only after some proding.

Now, DVDEmpire is another story!
