welcome to the forum, but FYI, when the first post you enter is a link to a new DVD store, it kind of makes you like a shill slash whore for the store. If I don't see you ever post on this forum again, I'll KNOW you're a shill slash whore, and I'll tell everyone I know, and I'd urge everyone on this forum, to NOT buy from this new store.

Anyone who has to resort to "alternative" aka "deceptive" advertising like this is not worthy of my entetrtainment dollar. I'll order from express.com again before your new store, IF that's the case.

I sure hope that's not the case.

It's a friendly forum, and we all like to share new deals or discover new stores. But again, when it's your VERY FIRST POST, it seems a bit shady.

This is just one of those VStores, they have pre-done storefronts, which you can customize a little, and they also carry all of the products, take orders, ship them, etc. They guy who signed up/opened this nth version of a Vstore just basically helps the VStore corp. advertise more, and for that he gets a little percentage of any sale that went through his account/page. Thats all.

Yes...yes he is...and I'm comfortable with that. At least that hypothetical asshole isn't coming onto a (usually) friendly forum under the guise of hipping everyone to a wonderful new DVD store, when he's really getting a commission from it.

If you're walking down the street and some stranger said "Let's hang out and chat...wanna buy a watch?" wouldn't you consider THAT person an asshole? Or at least a shill slash whore? That's how I feel when someone joins the forum just to link to their store. If that makes me an asshole, as I said, I'm comfortable with it.

It's his first post, he hasn't posted anything since making this post and the store link is also his homepage in his profile.

It's definitely an ad. And the forum rules (that you have to agree to in order to register and post) clearly say that you can't post advertisements on the forum.

I used to ban people like this on a regular basis when I was a more active moderator on another board.

There is this Vstore thing. And ANYBODY can make up a little store, that is really just a verson of VStore, and get their own domain name, and viola, they are a dvd store?

And if so, what is the point?

No, I think their 'page' is just another front for VStore. They just get some money on getting people to click through and bring VStore more business.

And davott, I won't ask for, nor will I expect, an apology. Just know that I would not say the things that I say were I not sure I was right. And even still, if Mister "Visit my store" boy comes on and explains his actions, I'll apologize if I were wrong. But it sure looks less likely since he hasn't visited the forum. If I had the time, I'd be tempted to go to other DVD & Home Theater forums just to see how many of them received a one-shot visit from this guy.

In view of all of the evidence produced, I DO apologize. It just seemed a little premature, based on a one-line post, to condemn a guy to "shill slash whore" hell without a DNA test. Yeah, no worries, davott. I guess I've seen enough people using forums & chat rooms to hawk their wares for my radar to go up. If you keep coming around here, you'll see it happen from time to time.

I'll say this though...whoever the guy was, was smart enough to NOT give the site a hard sell. Usually, you see something like this:

I'll give you another great example. I'm humble enough to admit that I have a personal ad on the 'net. Met some cool people, more than I would have if I locked myself in my house and watched DVDs all day...not that I'm implying anyone here does that...I just mean that..heh heh...uh...Isn't it hot in here...oh boy.

ANYWHO, every so often I get email that goes something like this...

"I just read your ad and I think you sound GREAT! Maybe we can get together & have a drink sometime...I just got over a bad relationship...my boyfriend doesn't trust me because I find other girls hot. He's only the third boyfriend I've ever had (I'm 21!) and they could just never satisfy me. And even if they could, I bet most guys wouldn't mind if they're lover occasionally brought another girl home...what do YOU think? I set up a website with some girlfriends of mine where you can see all sorts of wild pics! You'll need a credit card to get on, but something tells me you'll think I'm worth it!" And that's followed by a link directed to a site with such innocuous page names such as "Hot Nympho Teen Sluts Taking it Just For You!" Or something equally romantic. Sort of makes me feel special; out of all the personal ads she COULD have written, she decided to shill to ME! Assuming of course, it's a she. I'm sure most of them are written by guys who refer to their increasingly yellowing collection of Hustler mags in the basement, the ones will to them by their uncle the convicted sex offender, as "My girlfriends."

So like I said, I try to keep my Bullshit Detector up on the forum. I'm sure stuff gets past me, but if I catch it, I'm going to say something about it to y'all, so you don't get stuck, either.
