DVDPlanet... reliable?

I'm planning on making a hug purchase, like over $600, and I always shop at DVDempire and they have proven to be very reliable. DVDPlanet has the item I want for a good $30 cheaper however... I have heard of them a bunch of times, but frankly their site looks REALLY lame and amateur... What's your experiance with DVDPlanet? If any...

I've been buying from them for years.I usually buy the box sets,super-bits and criterions from them because it's cheaper and they always have them.I've NEVER had a problem with them on anything - pre-orders,shipments,billings or anything. When I have returned stuff to them, they've been pretty quick processing the return.I would recommend them, but thats me.I know that there are quite a few members who feel the opposite, but I've never had a problem with them.

DVDPlanet used to be Ken Crane's which was bought out by Image Entertainment and was one the most reputable places to buy Laserdiscs.

The mail order division, if not the entire brick and mortar store was purchased by the same company that is Critic's Choice Video, Deep Discount DVD and Digital Eyes (and who knows how many others).

DVDPlanet is as reputable as any of the other stores mentioned above.

That's not saying much. Since they were bought out, the store that was the great Ken Crane's now sucks as much as DDD. Horrible customer service. They are not what they used too be, and I used DVD Planet a lot. Be cautious.

I primarily order from DVDempire on a weekly basis, and I use DVDplanet as my back up if there is something empire doesn't have in stock. I find they are as reliable as empire(as in a pre order ships on Friday via Priority main, and it arrives Monday). Never had an issue with them.

I used to order anime from them a few years back when Ken Crane owned it. I had no problems with them. The company that bought them also owns Deepdiscount.

Wow... that takes me back. When I moved away from Los Angeles into the laserdisc wilderness, I used to love ordering from Crane's! What a pleasure that place was.

The company, Infinity Resources, owns DVD Planet, Deep Discount DVD, and Digital Eyes. I tend to use Digital Eyes because they frequently have coupons and have a frequent buyer program, similar to airline frequent flyer programs, that gives bonus coupons for previous purchases spent.

If you're buying Criterions, DVD Planet has them at the best price for 35% off MSRP.

Since you've got a big order coming, here is one Digital Eyes coupon code you can probably use, as can anyone else making a big enough order:

code: TWILIGHTZONE, $25 off $325 order, expires 12/31/04

Nice code, thanks a lot man...

I am put-off by the fact that I emailed them a shipping question 2 days ago and have not recieved a response. I'm not purchasing this set for one more payday anyway, but still... how long does it take to answer a simple shipping question? Hrm.

I told you their customer service sucks. I found replies took as long as a week.

Yeah, but thanks to that code DVDEmpire just went from $40 more expensive to $70... which is a lot. Dammit, I don't know what to do...

Well, if their customer service is the same as DDD, the easiest and fastest thing in the world to do is simply call them.

Moogle, I hate to be so negative, but don't believe everything they say. They are highly untrained. I wish you the best. You know that.

My last several purchases from Digital Eyes all went pretty smoothly. On a couple of occasions when I had to email them, they did reply back within 24 hours.

Even though all 3 companies are owned by Infinity Resources, they all seem to have their own separate employees handling customer service, so that might vary between each company. They just all use the same fulfillment center to fill the orders and ship them out.

I just got the email answer... not THAT long, I guess. They gave me the shipping answer I wanted to hear... that with the coupon above pretty much cements my using Planet.

Wish me luck.

MooglePorn, just a note. The coupon code I listed above was for Digital Eyes, not DVD Planet. I don't think you can use that coupon code on DVD Planet, even though both sites are owned by the same corporation.

Well I'm placing the order Friday... still using Planet, despite the coupon thing... Thanks to everyone for their opinions.
