Foreign Films

I've amassed 10 foreign film titles for you to choose from (and added one of my own! :P ). Feel free to pick however many you'd like. Also, I've listed the imdb.com database entry on each film.

I've had to take a stab at some of these -- if I've gotten them wrong, please let me know!

The winner will be discussed 7/28-8/3.

Les Enfants du Paradis (Children of Paradise)
Hua yang nian hua (In the Mood for Love)
Chong qing sen lin (Chunking Express)
Wo hu cang long (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon)
Amores perros (Love's a Bitch)
Tengoku to jigoku (High and Low)
Lashou shentan (Hard-Boiled)
Les Diaboliques (Diabolique)
Lola rennt (Run Lola Run)
Léon the Professional
Hana-bi (Fireworks)

I've only seen 4 of the films on this list, so it's a limited selection for me to choose from, but I vote for Hard-Boiled. John Woo rules!!

Dom, you'll probably get your wish! Somehow even though all of these films got nominations, there are only 3 votes so far.

And.... am I missing your joke??

Run Lola Run is one of the only foreign films I'll watch, so I voted for that. I also wouldn't mind discussing Brotherhood of the Wolf.

Chungking Express was amazing, so I'll vote for that. Didn't vote for anything else since I didn't want to distort my vote. I must admit I am disapointed Festen wasn't on the list, since that is one film I feel I could discuss easily.

I'm confused... Is there a french version of Leon? I thought it was strictly english. What makes it foreign?

DrDetroit: imdb listed it as first country: France. Maybe that's not 100% right, but I do know there were several cuts of it made, the director's version did not get wide release in the US, only Europe. Call it an executive decision.

Dom - Pretty funny! And here I thought you knew Chinese....

I voted for Leon. When I first saw this film years ago, I was blown away by the performances of Jean Reno & Natalie Portman. I had never heard of her but thought she was amazing in that film.

I also loved Chungking Express & recently picked up the DVD for $10 at FYE.

Looks like Lola Rennt is our big winner! I think I'll actually push the dates out a bit and have a Special Discussion this week.

Please, if you'd like to renominate any films, use the nominations thread.

Thanks!
