Anime - very short list

Well, since I have a hard time calling 'anime' anything other than 'anime', we have a very short list of films to choose from.

Ought to make voting a breeze....

The winner will be discussed in a future Film Class, date TBD. Purists will tell you to watch it subtitled, but we really don't care much about how you watch these films. Bashing someone in the discussion because they watched the English dub will not be tolerated.

Like other recent polls, there are links in the selections themselves to the imdb.com entry for that movie.

Vote on! And remember, there is a separate Nominations thread! Thanks....

Princess Mononoke is amazing peace of artwork and great story. Its gets my vote and the only vote so far. The dub is also very well done with some big name stars. I also hope to purchase the movie within the next week or 2 as well.

As popular as they both seem to be, I'd say both Akira and Princess Mononoke are probably worth a discussion. I only own Akira though.

Yippie another vote for Princess Mononoke. I finally decided to buy it on Thursday night. I had to waste some time before Austin Powers 3 so me and my friend went over to future shop. $61 later for me and $241 for him.

Well, the joy of running Film Class with slade is that we can end up making some 'executive decisions.'

Which means, if a film doesn't win the poll it can still turn up in class. Kinda what happened to "Contact" this week. Came in 2nd in the poll I think...but dang, it's such a goldmine of discussion. And it's been rather popular....

I have a feeling that a couple of films are gonna end up just like "Contact"...based on the 'love' they get via comments.

Very difficult to choose! I own (& love) all three & feel that all of them merit discussion.

Akira - Probably one of the most influential anime films here in the U.S. While one of my all-time favorites, I don't feel that lends itself to discussion as much as the other 2 choices.

Grave of the Fireflies - One of the most powerful films I've ever seen, anime or not. In fact, I'd put it up there with Schindler's List as a film that should be mandatory viewing for everyone. But I can't get myself up to watch it more than once every year or two, so I'd have to pass on it for my choice.

Princess Mononoke - That leaves Princess Mononoke, which is another in a long line of exceptional films by Miyazaki. While not my favorite of his (that would be Kiki's Delivery Service ), it has many facets that merit discussion & is my choice.

Well, Akira won....but Flash owns Princess Mononoke, so we'll discuss that as well. I'll space them out accordingly!! Look for dates in the Announcements thread...
