Horror/ Thriller Halloween Poll

In celebration of the greatest holiday of all (IMHO), HALLOWEEN, we are going to have a month's worth of discussion about horror/thriller type movies. Additionally, we're going to have a thread devoted to discussion of this genre as well that will go all month.

Here's the plan:

The poll will run all month, but each Thursday we'll take the leader in the poll to set up for discussion for the next week starting on Sunday. For example, which ever movie has the most votes on 10/3 will be set up for discussion starting on 10/6. And so forth, for the whole month!

So, get ready for a great month of horror!

(vote for as many as you like, but remember that you only get to vote once, even though the poll goes for a month--so choose wisely).

Suspiria and The Thing all the way - 2 of my most favorite horror flicks. They're also the ones that would probably be most interesting to talk about, too... I still can't believe that chest scene in The Thing - it nearly made me barf. Definitely the most frightening scene in a film for myself.

Man i voted and missed Poltergeist. Oh well Sleepy Hollow, Rosemary's Baby, Nightmare Before Christmas and The Exorcist are my choices. Hey where are my Evil Dead movies, at least the first 2 can be seen as a true horror movie. The third being my favourite was more of the Splatstick kind of movie.

Well, SilentBob -- the fun part of this is, there's always October 2003!!

I'm just realizing we're missing out on the Hammer series of horror films, as well as the beloved Evil Dead films (and I have all of those, d'oh!). I think we were just going for a little bit o' everything, some classics, some gore, some Argento, some franchises. You get the picture!

Any other suggestions, guys?...and stick around, a year passes by pretty quickly!!

I just don't understand.
Why does a classic film like CREEPSHOW always go unnoticed. IMO, CREEPSHOW is one of the greatest genre entries ever made. Paying homage to the great EC comics of the 50's, written by Stephen King, directed by Romero, awesome performances from an even more amazing cast...what more could anyone want??? I'm starting an entire half sleeve tattoo dedicated to this movie. That's right...from shoulder to elbow will be CREEPSHOW.
I don't understand why it's not recognized for what it is. OK, it's not SCARY perse (although most freak over the cockroach story), but it's a very well-made movie which I don't think could ever be duplicated.
Are there any other CS fans out there. Maybe not as big as myself, but fans nonetheless.

BTW, Slade...thanks for putting it at the TOP of the list!!! You rock!

I've just recently got this one (the 25th anniversary edition) and feel exactly the same way... I love horror films but I'm also a real wimp when it comes to watching them I was the kid that used to watch the daleks on Dr Who from behind a cushion and I'm sorry to say I haven't changed too much!

Some of my faves are -

Poltergeist - Spielberg by association's finest moment
The Shining - IMO the best King adaptation, also a great DVD if only for seeing Shelley Duvall put in her place
The Thing - sublime
The Lost Boys - one of the best teen horror flicks ever
The Nightmare Before Christmas - a kids flick?...
The Omen Series - I think this is one of the few series where all 3 are *almost* as good as each other.

The Exorcist and The Thing -- tied at 14 votes apiece!

I guess we'll have two discussions this week. Please, everyone, contribute to both really scary movies....they are quite different!

Edit: I removed these two movies from the poll, so we can forge on with 'real' numbers.

Can you please add to the list my favorite horror films!! I'm shocked that these are not on the list

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Hellraiser
Candyman
Carrie

What gives, there is too much :barf: on this list...how did 13Ghosts , Sleepy Hollow and TFriday the 13th make this cut and not films like the ones above, or even some of these:

Scream
The Blair Witch Project
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
The Birds

IMHO, a real turkey of a horror list.

what gives?

Well, Indyphantom, I can take responsibility for half the list. My excuse--I've never watched much Horror. But, I did have this brainstorm to do this horror thing in October and wanted to just get it going. So, sorry if you're not pleased with the list.

Perhaps we could set up another poll for the last couple weeks in Oct. I'll chat with the goddess about it.

Yes, Indy....Slade came up with half and I came up with the other half. We tried to get a good mix, but to be fair, I know we missed a lot. How can you have just a list of 20 horror films? I mean, we're missing a bunch of my favorites too.

Slade has asked and I will agree, that another poll will be made for the last two weeks in October. Not only your suggestions, Indy, but any other suggestions that have been or will be made in this thread.

Oh, and Sleepy Hollow is one of my favorites. Just watched it again the other night. You've got to understand, different strokes for different folks.

Unpleasant dreams.....

I understand...normally I wouldn't get upset, but horror is very close and dear to me. Obviously, there will be some films I don't like on the list (I even suggest BLAIR WITCH which I personally hate, but is revered by too many to be ignored)

I'm just not sure how some of these headscratchers made your list, that's all.

THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE must not be ignored!

Okay, I've said my peace and will look forward to the next poll. I did vote for SUSPIRIA in this one.

Suspira -- with 15 votes!

Again, I'm removing the movie from the poll....carry on.

OK, since slade will be setting up a new poll for the last couple weeks in October (with fresh new options) I should close this poll.
