Explain The Dancing Chicken In Stroszek
The one at the end of Stroszek. My feeble mind cannot comprehend such metaphors.
...After his girlfriend and house leave him, Bruno heads up north to an amusement park type place, with a frozen turkey and rifle in tow. The main attraction is a dancing chicken. You put a quarter into the machine, it comes out of its den, and does a little prance. The camera lingers on the chicken for a good 30 seconds before returning the viewer to Bruno and his last ride. When the police eventually arrive, they say "We've got a truck on fire, can't find the switch to turn the ski lift off, and can't stop the dancing chicken. Send an electrician." Then the camera returns once again to the dancing chicken. So what does it mean? Is the human race (chicken) nothing more than an amusement for god (Bruno, or the quarter)? How does this relate to the overall theme of losing your hopes and dreams? Please share your thoughts.
