Favorite horror character/franchise?

Who is it, and explain why.

Mine is Freddy. Aside from liking the character the most, one can honestly say that at least tried something different in every movie. Some worked, some didn't, but was always inventive rather than just having some mindless hulk killing people in an endless series of movies.

I just voted for Jason Voorhees.

He may not have been the most creative boy on the block, but he's unquestionably one of the baddest, and I'll always have a special place in my heart for the Crystal Lake Killer.

This isn't a threadcrap, but I'll have to say none of them. Really, the essence of a horror film is surprise. Once a character becomes overly familiar, you lose all sense of surprise, mystery, and the general unknown.

If I was forced to really choose one, I would have to go with the ages-old standby and say Satan. His movies are really the best, allowing for a myriad of interpretations and presentations.

Well you have asked 2 different questions.

Who is my favorite? Freddy. Why? He redifined the word psycho, and he was a masterful personification of evil and villany. He was a well developed character, who was perfectly executed on screen.

But the F13 series is my favorite. Why? These films always pushed the envelopes, and were abundant in the creativity among their death sequences. And bar the 8th entry, all the other paramount movies were very strong. The same cannot be said for the NOES series. Freddy was a great character in the beginning, but towards the middle of the series, from the 4th part on, he pussied out and became too comedic and a great deal more mild.

Definitly agree with the first part. But the reason I think the NOES series is the best, is because, even though uneven in the end results, they always tried something new with all the movies, where the F13 films 1-10 were the same thing over and over, IMHO.

i voted for michael myers because the halloween movies produced the most scares for me. really 1-5 were good suspense movies (even the non-applicable "season of the witch") and the developing story was worth tuning in.

for me, NOES 1 and 3 were the only good ones to watch. though freddy vs. jason was really good, imho.

the jason series got weaker and weaker, but i liked 1-3, and 7. i liked the campiness of jason x ("we love premarital sex!!"), but it wasn't scary at all.

but lar has a point, the surprise factor is what makes the horror work.

I've always been a fan of Freddy. Sure the movies became more cheese/comedy and less horror, but he's always been my favorite horror movie charactor.

I voted for Michael Myers. I always thought those films were well done (exce[t Season of the Witch was a bit odd) but overall these films had interesting story lines.

Freddy Krueger would be a close second for me.

Chucky doesn't belong up there. Replace him with Leatherface. Micheal Myers for me. Creepiness wins in horror movies. You laughed at Freddy and got bored with Jason.

"Other" for me. With the exception of Chucky, each of the above had a good first film. Period. It is all downhill from there. Like Larphillips said, once the surprise is gone, what is left? You substitue with jokes and hokiness and more of the same.

Of the originals in each series, my favorite would be the Friday the 13th.

The only movie I liked of ANY of these was the first Halloween, and maybe the second, so it has to be Michael. What people see in the other ones I have no idea.

I meant Freddy and Chucky and the others. I don't get those movies at all.

As for the later Halloween moments, the one with the little girl ending, you know what I'm talking about, was kind of cool. For the ending alone. Was that 4?

I voted for OTHER, and that OTHER would be Leatherface... the only frightening movie compared to the above!

I probably would have voted for Vin Diesel if I coudl have. He's so fucking scary, if you saw him in person you'd probably pee yourself. Hell, he scared me in the Pacifier.

That said, I voted for Freddy. Jason was probably more badass over all, but I really dig the whole "only in dreams" thing about the Freddy story.

Michael Myers is the only one after 7 movies that still makes me nearly crap my pants just at the sight of him.

i voted for Jason

one of my all time favorites and no matter how bad the movies get, i still find them entertaining on that B close to C level. Even Jason X had one scene where he freeze dried a girls face and smashed it on the counter, i couldnt stop laughing yeah....im a little sick

I voted other, as my vote goes to the Phantasm series and the Tall Man.

Booooy!

Honorable mentions to Jason and Michael, for getting me hooked on horror as a child.

The Halloween movies have always been my favorite. I think they are well written and very suspenseful.
