Batman question??

I have just watched Batman Begins and it has left me a little puzzled.

As I recall in the recent batman films, Bruce Waynes parents were Killed by the "Joker" (Jack Nicholson (Remember the "Dance with the devil in the etc)) before he had his brush with Batman and fell into a vat of ooze that transformed him into the "Joker".

So why is it an entirely different person in Batman Begins that has killed his parents, and ends up dead?

or am i way off...

Two things to remember here:

1) Tim Burton decided to have Jack Napier kill Thomas & Martha Wayne (Bruce's parents) it was his own adaption of the story. Batman begins is no way related to the Burton/Keaton film (or it's sequels). It's not even a prequel. It's a total restart/reboot to the series. For a long time I know of many people that appeared to be under the impression Batman Begins was a "prequel".

2) Batman Begins takes it's inspirations from the comics more than the previous films (Batman : Year One seems to be a big influence). And in the comics it was indeed Joe Chill that killed Bruce's parents.

Actually, as of now in the comics, the killer is unknown. Which I think works well for the character. Trying to tie up that story is unecessary to the core of the character. Leaving it open adds to it.

Yeah, "Joe Chill" is no longer proper continuity, as of the DC reboot and reboot refinement in Zero Hour. Had to show off my old comic knowledge there...

I did not know this!

Where did the character of Joe Chill come from then?

Was he once considered the guilty party and now it's changed as I was pretty sure that story was in place prior to the Christian Bale film?

Yeah, Joe Chill killed his parents in the comic before the reboot. Check out "Year Two" for a good story with a lot of him in it. The entire Joe Chill aspect of the series was erased when Crisis and Zero Hour revamped the DC comic universe, and as of the last time I kept up with such things the Wayne's murderer remains a complete unknown, which is supposed to echo the random crime of the real world.

Oddly, and I remember a bunch of comic book message board discussions about this when I participated in such things, "Year One" is still part of official continuity, and as I said, "Year Two" is not. Just another example of how strange comic book contnuity can be.

I'm a Batman fan and in my opinion "Batman Begins" did more justice than the last 2 campy movies. I 've been hearing and reading a lot speculation on a sequel. And Christian Bale did a smashingly good job that he signed on for the next batman film. Anyone got the scoop on this? What will the story arc be?or will it follow the comics or be something totally independent?

Actually, since Infinite Crisis, Joe Chill is once again the killer and Batman eventually caught him.

Had to show off my new comic knowledge here...

Actually, I always preferred the idea that he eventually confronted Joe Chill. The fact that he continues his fight after that makes him seem more heroic to me. I especially like the way they handled it in Batman Begins. In Burton's Batman, there really wasn't much reason for him to continue doing what he was doing once he brought down Napier.

Not to me...he needs and I prefer to see him with that 'edge' of never knowing. The dude needs to be obsessed and not knowing the killer helps that IMO.

I'm getting lost on the IC, 52, crap....it's bullshit to me. I still buy the books, yet I sit back and go...ok...

I've also lost the excitment of new issues and emotional ties somewhat, meh...it might be me getting older.

No, it's not just you. I'm not a big fan of where post IC DC is going.

Marvel OTOH is serving up great stuff left and right currently.

Well I don't buy Marvel, I almost started to with Spidey a while back but then realized Spidey was a chick? Something like that...anyway, I feel it's too late to jump into the new Marvel stories so I guess I'll ride this whole DC thing out (the deciding factor may be how the new JL is handled). If that sucks, then I guess I'll be buying fewer books, or simply stop. Hey, I need to save money for smokes anyways since only death will cause me to quit.

The one book I miss is LOBO....that was fun, adult and a joy for me. LOBO's da MAN!.

This is what made me quit collecting all together, sometime after No Man's Land, when they had that "Bruce Wayne Murdered" shit, I was like... "what the fuck ever.

From the sounds of things, I quit at the right time.
