Warren Beattys „Reds“ – Please for Help!

My dear film specialists!

Nice forum, that is! I have the impression, that you could help me with sort of a problem… let me explain…

Firstly, I’ve got to apologize for my bad bad language, with the conveniant excuse of my Austrian nationality (Mozart and Skiing instead of kangaroos ;-)

Now my great plea to you:
I’m busy searching for information to write a short paper for my university-course (it’s about history intermediation via film). The topic ist the film “Reds” by Warren Beatty of 1982. The film tells about an US-American communist in the 1920ies (and later), who is played by Beatty himself.

Has anyone out there seen the film or has heard anything about it? Or does anyone even know a good book or Page on the Internet about it? Maybe a good film magazine that brought reviews back in those days?

I’ve not yet come to a clearly marked out topic, but I hope to be able to cope with questions as these: Was “Reds” something extraordinary in relation the the film-landscape of the 1970ies/late 1980ies? Has it caused a stir of any kind? With which other films could “Reds” be compared? What did especially left-wings think about this film?

Have you all got any opinions to “Reds” or generally to the topic of Hollywood films with left-wing topics (how many of them are there anyway?)?

A great “thank you” for your help ahead, I’m really greatful for every of your answers!

Nice greetings, Avenna
