Did anyone else watch the MTV Movie awards that Jessica Alba hosted? She won for sexiest role in a film...her acceptance speech began by her thanking all the perverts out there that voted for her...I am sure that all the voting perverts who were watching were thinking, "No probs, thanks for being such a c*ck-teasing skank on film."

In a more serious and respectful note - Jessica Alba did her best acting EVER on the MTVMA's for the little humorous film clips they played...seriously, I did NOT know she could act until then.

I think one of the most tastefully done non-nudity shots is in As Good As It Gets. The back shot of Helen Hunt when she is sitting on the side of the tub is sexy as hell.

Not only was the nudity in “The Notorious Bettie Page” justified, it was essential. And although Natalie Portman would have been wrong for the roll, had she been cast, the nude scenes would still have been essential.

I agree. The thing is, the nudity was tasteful as well, meaning there weren't any prolonged close-up shots of Ms Page's breasts just for the sake of getting a "close-up", etc.

I am no prude but why did all the true classic films not need nudity to
be true classic films?
Lawrence of Arabia
Gone With the Wind etc.
I know the production code was in effect
but these films seem to have not needed nudity
to be great films.
Just my opinion.

I think PH is fine with nudity as long as it's in foreign films. That's when it's art and necessary. It's rarely necessary in American films.

That is not true. If any of those films were remade now they would have nudity and vulgarity all through them.
Those movies showed that despite the lack of nudity and cursing one could tell great stories. The trouble now is a lack of talent compared to filmakers in the 30s and 40s. It takes far more imagination to make a great film without nudity and cursing.

Don't even start on cartoons from the 20s through the late 50s. They blow away any animation that is in theaters or on TV now both in quality of backgrounds and animation and comic timing. They also did without the save the world environmental PC crap that infests cartoons now.

I just got home from a showing of Knocked Up which contains several examples of where lack of nudity had a direct impact on my ability to enjoy the movie.

It's extremely obvious that Katherine Heigl had a nudity clause in her contract, as she was always wearing a bra during the various sex scenes between her and Seth Rogen.

My complaint has nothing to do with the fact that we didn't get to see her breasts, but everything to do with it coming across as forced and out of place in that kind of over-the-top comedy. It simply moved me out of my suspension of disbelief - time and again even.

I really wish they'd either used a body double, or used angles where she could be topless without showing breasts, or even had her wear a t-shirt or blouse or men's shirt instead of the clumsy and awkward way they went with.

Even my wife commented on it, without me bringing it up I might add. She basically mirrored my thoughts above, that it just seemed weird and "wrong" in some manner.

Anyway, as we were having a conversation about it I thought about this thread and wanted to share.

Honestly, about two years ago. It's not always necessary to get nekkid to have sex. Of course, the critical parts need to be exposed so the deed can be done. It all depends on the circumstances or the situation.

Actually, even within the context of the film, the bra staying on does make sense. I don't really see the issue here either.

In a movie or show it distracts me because it looks stupid and unrealistic. I'm sure it happens sometimes for whatever weird reason... I think it happened with me like once in 11 years of fucking... but having it in movies all the time is distracting from the realism. End of story, in my opinion. I don't need to see tits... use the sheets, darkness and angles...
