Describe the plot

We've all seen enough films to recognize the same plot disguised with various circumstances and leading actors.

So, this thread is intended to list all of the unique plots we've seen in various films to see what we come up with.

Peace...

You could end up with two topics. 1) movies that took a known story line and changed it enough to make it unique (such as Buttterfly Effect) or 2) movies that are truly unique (such as Memento).

Is Memento truly "unique", though? From a story telling stance, perhaps. From the standpoint of the plot of
Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):
a guy who doesn't remember the crimes he commits
, is that truly unique?

Peace...

How far back are we supposed to go? And are we only talking unique to movies? Or all media?

I mean, I think The Great Train Robbery was the first western movie ever made, and certainly the first western featuring a train robbery. But I feel a little odd calling the plot in that movie unique. Even if it was unique in its day.

Unless, of course, you count various other media. In which case I'm sure there's books and plays that deals with the wild west and train robberies that came out before the movie.

Or, perhaps with "unique" you mean used only once and never again? Still, the media clarification would be nice.

So, some parameters please.

No real rules or restrictions. Here's an example:

Ransom introduced the idea of a guy who's family or family member is taken hostage and instead of giving in to the demands, the guy refuses to work with the kidnappers and stands up to them. I'm sure we can all think of movies that have that kind of plot or elements of that kind of plot in them even though they are not Ransom.

Peace...

Well i think off the top of my head it would be Panic Room Sure we have them in a standoff with the robbers/intruders. Yet when they switch situations and she starts breaking the cameras so they can't see what she is doing was a cool twist. I love how even they mention "why didn't we think of that" Cool to see the victim become the intruder and the intruders becoming the victim of her plan.

Umm... okay?

In that case:

The Great Train Robbery
The Voyage to the Moon
The Arrival of the Mail Train

The list really could go on an on.

Fight Club would be a good one. You watch the whole movie believing one thing is happening, only to find out all is not as it seems.
