The "I Finally Saw *Instert Movie* Thread

I know there are people who have never seen a movie that all of their friends, family or co-workers have seen and you just keep putting it off. I am one of those people who hear about a great movie and just pass it off until its either on tv or really cheap on dvd. This is for those people who have finally seen that movie that everyone has told them about. Just give the name of the movie and what you thought about it and did it live up to the hype.

I finally saw The Big Lebowski a little bit ago realized that the movie is almost 10 years old and I never saw it. I had heard from everyone that it's a great movie and have some friends who can quote it pretty well. I finally saw it on one of the movie channels and decided to see it. Overall it was a very good film, and I would agree with my friends that it lived up to it's reputation and with Jeff Bridges as "The Dude" and John Goodman as "Walter" really make the film memorable.

I mean how can you not like a film about a man who just wants his rug back that really ties the room together?

Film:

Also Steve Buscemi as Donnie. Simply hilarious

Finally saw Fast Times at Ridgemont High for the first time recently. I was too young to watch it when it came out, and it's rarely been shown on cable channels. I doubt it was ever broadcast over-the-air, even in edited form, considering how raunchy it is. I did not realize that it was written by Cameron Crowe.

Yep...

...neither good or bad. Just not seeing the fanaticism that seems to be associated with it.

Oh... it's been on broadcast. But your right, highly edited and what's the point. Hell, Scarface was on regular TV. WTF

The fanaticism comes from watching it year after year since childhood. I’ve never been a fan of the film myself, but a lot of my friends are. And whenever I ask them why they like it so much, they reply with some variation of "because it’s a Christmas tradition."

I was just going ot say that. People who love the film have been watching it for years, mostly since childhood. They connected more with it then friends who didn't see it till adulthood. Mrs. Monro doesn't really care for it so when I play it I get that "are we watching this again?" look

I do understand, but long ago I got tired of "It's A Wonderful Life" & "The Wizard of Oz". Guess I just get bored easier.

I'd have a lot to add if we still had our Netflix account, or if I remembered what we rented. Fast Times at Ridgemont High and American Graffiti were definitely two of them. Such films made up half our rentals for a while.

A Christmas Story is definitely a tradition with me, but a fairly new one. I don't remember when I first saw it, but it was only ~5 years ago, and I loved it from the start.

This Halloween . . . The Birds.

Good, but where was the ending? What made the birds go crazy?

thats the great thing about older movies, no need for an explanation, sometimes the lack of one is better then it being fed to us, lets us use our imagination more

The Princess Bride. It was definitely not worth the hype.

"Scent of a Woman". Several friends would have this as their first recommendation. Finally saw it the other day and I must say they were right. Very enjoyable.
