Thumbs down My Playstation 2 Broke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was going to play Madden 2001 and my PS2 would not read the disc. I let it rest and it still wouldn't. Then, I put in Knockout Kings 2001 and it would not work.

I called up Sony and told them the probelms. There was also a probelm with their being corrupt files on the memory (never powered down or pulled out the memory card during saving) and a probelm with the video cable falling out. It would take 15-20 days to get my PS2 back and it would cost me a $120. I could almost buy a PS2 for that!!!

I also just got State Of Emergency today and am eage to try it. I am going to buy another PS2 soon. Has anyone gotten this probelm before?

When did you get your PS2? Is it a disc read error?

I had the same problem. I bought a new one, swapped them and then took it back.

Re:

Honestly, I was weary of buying a Sony console after the debacle I experienced buying a PSOne on launch day in 95' (within a year it was worthless from laser and overheating problems). My solution was this....I bought a refurb. I figured that being a refurb any out of the box problems had already been remedied, and aside from a lost game save (due to freeze-up) and another freeze-up, my PS2 held up very well. A company on half.com sells refurb PS2s and X-Boxes, which is where I got my PS2 from. They sell them (with full warranty) for about $260.

...Hold on... You bought a PS2 (which is made by Sony), and you're surprised it isn't working?

Be glad it lasted as long as it did...

Sorry Sam! Not too long ago my Dreamcast was doing the same thing (not reading the disc...actually it wasn't even SPINNING). The sh*t that made me crack waz I only had it for 2 months (I even created a thread in here somewhere).

Couldn't do the 'ol switcheroo at the store 'cause they STOPPED SELLING DC'S! So I managed to send Sega back their crappy machine! They didn't bother fixing my original DC, I got a refurbished one in a week! I wasn't too happy abuot getting a refurb instead of a new console....but now after reading Fezzik's comments, that's an excellent point!!!!

Hope this one lasts 4-ever!!!

Sam, do what oe suggested! That should work! Wal-mart is probably your BEST bet!

Well I've had my PS2 since launch (10/26/00) and no Game Play Problems. Now I did have a few disc read problems when I used it as a primary DVD player (after about 800 hours of DVD use). So I finnaly broke down, and got a dedicated player. No big deal though, it's still giving the hours of gaming fun, and that what I bought it for.

Whoa, I must have missed this post. These kinds of comments aren't welcome in this forum. We don't system bash here.

Funny, I really didn't read that guy's comment as a system bash. I think all he was really trying to say is that Sony (rightfully) has a pretty bad reputation with regards to the durability of their consoles.

I don't think I knew anyone who made it through the entirety of the 32-bit generation with only one PSX (I persoanlly have owned three), and there was a pretty high defect rate with the first run of PS2s both here and in Japan, and I'm already on my second of those as well (controller port stopped working). That's the way I read it anyway :???:
