It's amazing to me this is being spun negatively... I mean yeah, the 360 is cheaply made and breaks way too easily, but at least MS is standing up and taking responsibility. They're losing a LOT of money to maintain customer satisfaction... that's JUST what I want to see from my corporations.

I'm with you. The reports talk about how Microsoft is being forced to spend $1 billion, but they don't have to do this. They're certainly not doing this for the existing owners. They've done their research and found that they can make more than $1 billion by getting new customers who might think that the 360 isn't reliable.

Yeah, this is a good thing not a bad thing.

Not only are you getting a 3-year warranty, but anyone who has paid to get the 360 fixed is getting a retroactive refund, too!

Ironically, the 360 is the most reliable launch console I've personally owned in addition to the Atari2600/SNES - my launch NES, Dreamcast, and XBOX1 consoles all had problems, the latter two having severe ones.

I lost my launch system to the 3 lights of death about a month ago. I figured it was easier to just buy a new system since my first one was out of warranty, and I didn't want to have to hassle with being out of the gaming loop for however long its takes to repair them. Plus having to pay for said repairs didn't appeal to me. I absolutely love what they're going to do for me, especially when they could very easily have just done nothing about it. Now I have to decide whether or not to keep my 'spare' system once I get the original one fixed, or sell it on eBay. It's good to have choices I suppose.

Microsoft have now extended all UK warranties from the obligatory 12 months to three years. That's nice of them after I paid £60 for the privilege of extending mine to three years when I got it.
