Getting me a PS3!

We'll, while I have wanted one of these since it first came out, I held off and waited to see how this console would fare. Well it has of course been selling very well. And while some of the very first ones were a bit problematic, nearly all sold now have a proven track record.

And now with its lowered price of $499, I think It's finally the right time for me to get one of these And the 5 free Blu-ray offer cinched it! Now it's just a matter of where to buy one. I know that Amazon has a promotion going where they'll throw in Resident Evil- Apocalypse and a remote control.

But for me, the sole reason for getting the PS3 is for gaming. Since I just bought a Sony BDP-S300 stand alone player, there's no need to use the PS3 for playing Blu-ray movies.

I have two Xbox 360 consoles and now the PS3 will be joining them in my game room, playing on a 50 inch Panasonic LCD HDTV.

Any suggestions on some top PS3 game titles?

If you have a 360 only these are worth getting on the PS3: MotorStorm, Resistance and Ninja Gaiden Sigma.

360 version of everything multiplatform is better and the other exclusives suck.

Hmm, maybe this thread should go into gaming hardware?

I agree with Moogle that Resistance: Fall of Man, and Motorstorm are worth getting. I also have Oblivion, which is cool, but apparently the 360 is better. But I still enjoy it.

Yeah I thought about that shortly "after" I posted it.

Any really good role playing games besides Oblivion?(already own it on the 360). And how about some good racing titles?

You'll enjoy it.I bought a ps3 a month ago and I love mine. The only game I have for it right now is Spiderman 3 but it looks great.Make sure you get a memory card adapter so you can play your ps2 games on it.You can find them at bestbuy for only $14 or order them online.

Thanks for the reply Yes I'm looking forward to getting it. The ability to play PS2 games would be important for me if I owned PS2 games (never bought a PS2 console).

Sales have gone up tremendously since the price drop.

Other RPGs from Oblivion? Not a lot, really. Most JRPGs are still coming out on the PS2 simply because that's where the gamers are for now. 360 has Eternal Sonata and Blue Dragon coming soon, but they're exclusives.

You can try Enchanted Arms, a lot of people said it was better than the low reviews would indicate.

Seems as though the PS3 is a little light on killer game titles. I'm sure that will change by years end though (I hope anyway).

One that I just read about is Colin McRae Dirt, It's only available for the 360 right now but will be available for the PS3 in September. I saw a trailer for it and it looked amazing! Have you played this one?

MLB2K7 is a must, if you dont already have it on the 360. I cannot get enough of this game.

But the usually suspects mentioned above. Oblivion is good on it too, improved graphically over the 360 version too.

It'll be changing very soon, the end of the year looks hot and next year even better. Dirt looks very good but it's not amazing to play, sort of your standard racer with nothing special, but it LOOKS amazing and the PS3 version is said to look a good deal better from the developers themselves, so we'll see.

And Oblivion looking better on the PS3 is a judgement call... it has AF on the PS3 which makes textures look better at a distance, and it has faster loading, but it lacks any AA what-so-ever so it looks really jaggy and less crisp. I had both at one point and I sold the PS3 version, the jaggies were annoying as hell and it had no downloadable content.

I love my PS3, but I rarly use it to play PS3 games. Most of the time I use it as a DVD player, as its upscaling on standard def DVDs is amazing, and when I'm not watching those or BD disks I'm playing PS2 games like Tomb Raider Anniversary and Final Fantasy XII. Still, I know great games like Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, and Ratchet and Clank Future are coming, so it's all good.

Yeah, that recent patch really did a massive improvement on the upscaling of dvds. I will say that once some more games come out on the ps3, I will probably be playing a bit more than I am right now. Not to say that I will stop buying movies, but I think more content on the ps3 would be nice.

I'm seriously tempted right now to pick one up myself, mainly as an upscaling PS2 & Blu Ray player, since there's sweet fuck all in the way of games out at the minute. Seen an extremely attractive bundle with Motorstorm, Resistance, Genji, an HDMI cable & Click on Blu Ray for £400... my finger keeps hovvering over the 'buy' button...

Don't forget the damn region coding.

This site will help on a few US ones which work http://bluray.lindsite.dk/

Or import from Australia. Our currency is still crap to the pound so you may save a few $$$$ and we're on the same Region Code.

Yeah, i've mainly ordered from UK sites, although i've taken a risk by ordering a US copy of 300 since all Warner discs have been region free so far...

My PS3 arrived today. Wahoo!! This is one impressive machine. I will be filling out the form for the send away discs tomorrow. Right now I am just enjoying some Planet Earth and Tom Clancy Vegas. I haven't got into the media stuff or online stuff yet.

though I do agree about Vegas. If your going to get a game that is available on both system, I would almost always go the xbox way for the online play.

Yeah, until the PSN gets sorted out anyway... most online games are going to be better on 360, plus Ubi is doing crappy ports... all their games look better on 360 by a fairly large margin because they're relying too much on the PS2's crappy video card.

This fall though we will see... Assassin's Creed, in development for the PS3 first as I hear it, might change that.

Yeah that'll be a safe punt. Quick question on your UK Blu Rays. What size is the case. Like is it the same width as the PS3 games, or small and thin like HD-DVD. I've noticed the US releases are real thin, but the AU ones are the same thickness as PS3 games.
