Xbox 360 VGA

So while I am trying to work out my HD-DVD Add-on is not outputting 1080p, I noticed these VGA Cables Is there really a benefit to using this over component if my TV has a VGA input?

Well 360 only does 1080p over VGA and HDMI for movies... and few TVs accept it over component anyway.

And I don't know about VGA, but HDMI offers a good visual boost I think.

It depends on your TV. It can actually make it look worse. For instance, I know my dad's TV has a VGA input, but the VGA input is a signficantly lower resolution than the Component input.

If your TV offers VGA input AND it is a full resolution 1920x1080 VGA input, then the VGA input would probably be idealistically preferable as it would offer 1:1 pixel mapping. However, VGA inputs seem to vary in quality and there is really no standard for them so your TV may very well look worse over the VGA input than the component.

In the end, though, I doubt you will notice much difference. Either one will look stunning compared to standard DVD you are used to. The most practical use for the VGA cable is to hook your XBOX 360 up to your high resolution computer monitor as an alternative to an SDTV for those who do not have an HDTV, and that is why it was made in the first place.

well i took the plunge and decided to by the VGA 360 hookup. I went with the official Microsoft one, bought it on ebay for about 19 bucks and I will let you know. I have heard it fixes a lot of the component overscan problems, but it also washes out the picture. We shall see.

well I got my cable a few days ago. So far so good. I have not noticed any washed out look and my HD-DVD's are now outputting in 1080p which I was really exited about. The HUD looks much better in all games, no more component over-scan like before. I have noticed a general improvement in sharpness as well. So it looks like I wont be bothering with HDMI and an Elite (which I have considered). I am actually glad, because when I eventually get a Blu-ray player I wont have a free HDMI input (HD-DVR and SD upconverting 1080p player are already in there).
