Core Duo and Laptop Battery Life

My wife and I are thinking about purchasing another laptop now that we are in Graduate school. I have been looking at new HP's and most come with Core-Duos. One of my primary concerns is battery life. Does the much lower wattage required for the Core-Duo increase the battery life significantly over a P4?

On a side note, recommend any laptops you think rock. I am looking to spend just over a grand (and by just over I mean no more then 1100). She really wants a Mac Book Pro (and I would like one too), but we aren't going to spend 2 grand right now.

Yep, the battery life on a Core Duo is certainly better than a P4, and they're more powerful as well. Much better chip for a laptop.
Maybe not a MacBook Pro, but a regular MacBook? I loooove mine, typing this on it right now.
