Xbox How Halo affects hardware sales.

September 2007 hardware sales, according to NPD Group

Xbox 360--528,000
Wii--501,000
DS--496,000
PSP--285,000
PS2--215,000
PS3--119,000 << surprising how low this number is with the hullaballoo surrounding the clearancing of the 60gb models for 499.

Wait... the PS2 sold more than the PS3? I had no idea the PS2 was still selling so well.

It was the top selling console of all last Christmas.

And Ruined, this doesn't take into account the recent upswing for the 60GB PS3... that like, just happened... these numbers are too old.

Sure it takes them into account. The price drop for the 60GB PS3 happened in July, and these numbers are for the month of September. Thats more than enough time.

I'm talking about the recent one... the 200% increase in sales after the marking down of the 80GB to $499 and the 60/40GB to $399.

We'll see. It will also be interesting to see what impact the XBOX 360 Arcade $279 SKU will have on the market when it debuts in late October. It has the potential to be the hot seller this xmas.

But, the question remains: even at $399, how is the PS3 a better buy than XBOX 360? It is still more expensive, there are still are minimal good exclusive games on it, and multiplatform games still play better on 360. And now we've removed BC entirely from the picture on top of that, so its not even good for playing your old PS2 games upscaled on it.

And of course, November/December numbers will show who won the holiday.

Oh I agree... I think the $399 price will largely attract people who already own one of the other systems, or more casual gamers not affected by the massive anti-hype for the PS3. I don't think Ratchet or Uncharted are huge system sellers either, though they will move some units.

Still, I think it will be a nice boost for the PS3 when the price adjustment figures come out. They certainly won't win Xmas, but they should get a little shot in the arm.
