360 Web enabled updates?

I allowed a cookie thing the other day when the HDAO/360 booted up. It updated but took forever and now I'm trying to simply plug in a HD movie but am forced to wait for another web enabled update that is taking too long in my opinion!

I can't even cancel it!

WTF!

I just unplug my ethernet cable when I used my 360 for HDDVDs with web features. Fuck 'em I say, they're 99% useless anyway.

I don't know what the hell is going on but I started this whole wanna watch a movie at 18:36 (after unplugging the HDAO for several minutes).

I don't see the update bars moving and me thinks there is NO way to say nadda to this update.

If I'm making a stupid mistake here, fine...somebody tell me, otherwise, I am sorely dissapointed in this POS HDAO.

Well, I guess I'm fucked. No HD for me tonight...at least thru the HDAO.

Meh.

have you called Microsoft and told them what the problem is? Shut off your internet connection and try again. I don't have an HDAO (thanks to mrs. monro ruling with an iron fist) so i'm not sure how many updates come w/ watching movies on that.

Check out the Heroes thread. The f'n thing started a cookie download on disc 2 and takes forever. I made the mistake of cancelling the download then I couldn't even watch disc 2. After a bunch of searching I found out I had to blast away the saved files on the HDAO and then either wait for the download or disconnect my internet.

I had the exact same thing happen. I made the mistake of cancelling it, and then everytime I tried to play it after that it just booted me back to the main 360 screen. I did the same thing you did, and while that fixed it, I still had to let it sit there and go through whatever download process it had to go through, which took well over five minutes. It's stupid, and I don't understand why it does it. This has happened on two other disks as well.

I deleted the cookies and unplugged the ethernet. If you're using wifi just unplug the adapter and you should get the same results. You don't get to use the web features, but does that really matter?

I found a fix here.

Quote:
Solution 3: Boot up your console, and either disconnect from your network or load up a non-web enabled movie. After the movie starts to play, hit the "Display" button on your media center remote, then head to "HD DVD Network Settings". There, make sure "HD DVD Network Settings" is checked to allow web-enabled access, but in the "Cookies" section, select "Decline all cookies". This will allow you to access the web enabled content, and at the same time block the cookie loading when you boot up the movie, preventing any lock up issues.
Haven't tried it but will after I try and get some sleep.
