Looking for a dvd rom player for my pc for gaming
I saw a dvd/cd writer at Walmart for $34.It's the lite on.Is this dvd rom player good with videogames?I just bought the Sims 2 for pc and my pc doesn't have a dvd rom it just has a cd writer/rom player. My computer doesn't even reconise it.I'm looking for something as cheap as possible that won't have a problem playing game dvds.I'm probebly going with the cd/dvd model and remove the one already in it.Are these dependable?By the way I have 512 gb of memory is this enough to run this game?

Is the game actually on a dvd? It should say on the box. If it's not actually on a dvd you don't need a dvd drive to play it.
If you are spending $34 on a dvd rom drive you are probably not going to get grand performance out of it. But as far as games go it differs from game to game. It depends on how much the game actually goes to the disk for data. As far as how much memory you computer has for the game. Again read the game box. it TELLS you what the requirements are right there. memory is not the only factor you need to consider when running a game. CPU speed Amount of RAM Video card capabilities Sound card capabilities Those all need to be considered.

As for Sims 2, you are pushing it with 512mb of RAM but it should work. 1GB is the recommended amount these days, but often you can get away with 512mb.

I agree about the Lite On Drives. I have about 5 of them and all performe flawlessly. Going Lite On is a good move IMHO.

I'd go with a Samsung over Lite-On. I'm the IT manager for an Engineering company and we've purchased lots and lots of drives. I'm starting to believe that Lite-On's reliability isn't all that great. Out of the last batch of 10 drives I ordered from them, 2 of them went bad in the first 3 months (one scratching up discs). As of yet, I've never had a bad Samsung (though I haven't ordered as many of them).

I've had good luck with Lite-on. I once had a Sony that was a re-badge Lite-on, and the only problem with it was that it said Sony on it. Sony didn't have any firmware updates available for it, but I was able to throw a Lite-on firmware on it that solved a problem I had.
