PSP I think it's time for me to dive into the PSP

Well guys, I've decided to join the PSP crones. Not only that, but this will be my first handheld ever. I've been eye-balling it for awhile, well, since it came out, but never bit - until now. I just ordered a few UMD's from EBG that they had on sale for $4.99 each new/sealed - Kung Fu Hustle and Ghostbusters. I don't have the system yet, though. I haven't decided on which bundle to get - the Daxter or SW. Right now I'm leaning towards the Daxter. I'm dead set against getting the black. The consensus seems to be that this one shows fingerprints like no other.

Game recommendations would be nice since I'm new at this handheld thing. Also, what do you guys recommend for a screen protector? I'm more into the action / FPS / basketball / football games. GOW and Silent Hill will most likely be must buys for me as well, especially GOW.

Who know, maybe later on I'll join the DS crones as well.

Pretty sure your not gonna get Gears of War to work on a psp. Do you have Kung fu hustle and Ghostbusters on dvd?

I guess I just never understood the draw of play a game watch a movie on a teenie tiny screen.

I guess I should've clarified what GOW was. I meant God of War. I'll mainly be using the PSP at work or on trips. I probably won't play it that much at home as I have the PS3 and 360.

I just recently got the Daxter bundle myself. It's a great piece of hardware and it has hookups so you can run it through a TV. Choosing between the two bundles, personally I went for the Daxter bundle as it comes with not only a game but a Family Guy UMD, and, in my opinion more importantly, a 1 GB Memory Stick Pro card. For me that was the thing that made it an easy choice. However, I guess if you're a huge Star Wars fan maybe the Darth Vader on the back is something appealing. Either way, I think it's a great system and worth getting.

When I had a PSP the Grand Theft Auto games were very well done (GTA Liberty City Stories and GTA Vice City Stories). I really haven't paid any attention to the games as of late.

I'd still get a DS over a PSP. More games and they are easy to play in short spurts.

I'm a huge SW fan but the white PSP w/Vader just isn't that appealing to me. I don't know, I just have a stick up my ass about white consoles for some reason. I like the silver PSP better and Family Guy and the 1gb memory stick is a plus, but I;m not to hip on the daxter game, it's just not my type of game. I might just pick up the Daxter bundle and ebay the game. I also read that the games in these bundles don't come in cases - just cardboard sleeves. Is that true?

I'll have to check out the GTA games as well. I always had a blast playing those on the consoles.

If I were buying a portable I'd agree here. Stuff like nintendogs, the wario game, etc, are just neat; not much depth, but do you really need depth in a portable? But I have no use for a portable ATM, so not buying anything - when bored away from home I play tetris on my cell phone (LG enV).

The best thing about PSP IMO is a lot of retro titles are being rereleased on it, which is always a good thing.

Eventually, the day will come when I have both the PSP and DS, but I figured I would hit the PSP first. It has alittle more apeal to me.

Ruined, what retro titles are you speaking of? I haven't followed handhelds at all, so I really don't have a feel for what the good games are, what's coming, etc. The only one's I know about are God of War and Silent Hill.

Yep, the game and Family Guy UMD come in a cardboard sleeve. Cases would have been nice, though.

Metal Slug Anthology, Midway's Arcade Treasures, Sega Mega Drive Collection, Taito Legends, etc

That sucks. Is it really to much to ask for cases in any console bundle? Wii sports comes in a cardboard sleeve as well.

What about this mod everyone seems to be doing which enables nintendo games to be played on PSP. Has anyone done this and is it worth modfiying the PSP?

Taito Legends - that has the original space invaders, right? I think it has a Gladiator game on it as well but I don't know if it's the game I'm thinking of.

I used to play this game at 7-11 all the time where you would fight opponents with swords and you would have to hit all of their armor off in order to kill them. I might have my games mixed up. Me and my friends would always play this game, along with 1942/1943 and Skyshark.

I don't really dig on the DS's more casual, kiddy-style games... no offense to anyone who does, I'm not saying they're kid's games, just... kiddy style.

I am very tempted by some of the PSP's catalogue, but not enough to bite I guess. I just can't stand using a handheld for gaming when I could be using a TV. Obviously I have no need to play them outside my house, if I'm outside my house, I'm doing something other than playing games (finally).

I love my PSP and I recommend people pick up the Video cable when they buy it. Also it has neat connectivity features with PS3 - It was pretty fun to play Lair from work and have it run pretty damn good.

I've been saying since I saw a demo of EchoChrome at last year's E3 that if the game came out for PSP, its the game that would sell me on that system.

I want to get a PSP just for Echochrome. I am wondering if the Euro version of Echochrome will work with a North American PSP, or if I'll have to get a PAL one or if there is some kind of region coding?

I'm most interested in the Euro version as I think it has the most levels of all the UMDs and downloadable versions available.

I'm convinced a PSP is my next gaming purchase. I'm thinking maybe the Limited Edition Madden version.

The silver PSP 3000 will be available first, on October 14, 2008, in a $199 Ratchet & Clank Entertainment Pack. The package will include a silver PSP-3000, a Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters UMD game, a National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets UMD movie, a PlayStation Network download voucher for Echochrome, and a 1GB Memory Stick Pro Duo. The black PSP will ship in November in a $199 PSP 4GB Memory Entertainment Pack that includes the black PSP-3000, a 4GB Memory Stick Pro Duo, and a PlayStation Network download voucher for Everyday Shooter
K. I can wait a month I think. I was going to dive in and get a 2000 ASAP, but that isnt long to wait.
