Interesting. Now all those people who desperately wanted HDMI are going to repurchase their systems for a 2nd time to get Bluray.

No need to release a new 360 or people to toss their 360s.
Just release the new... BDAO for $199! ![]() Would make the PS3 & BD standalones look largely overpriced as BD players to 360 owners. The only catch is if the BDA studios would allow devices that may not support ICT to see the light of day.

You know, I think MS is really missing a golden opportunity here. They could have come out with a "Platinum" 1080p download-to-own marketplace to use with the 120gb hard drive. Perfect way to transition disgruntled HDAO owners to downloads.

Until Microsoft gets both their DVD playing capabilities AND their DRM issues under control, it'll continue to be a horrible idea to purchase something from Xbox Live or buy an external player. The xbox 360 is an amazingly good system and it's really disappointing that MS hasn't resolved these issues. DVD playback is terrible, movie rentals are FAR too expensive, and purchases from XBox Live can't be transferred to other systems (like physical media).
I have avoided purchasing anything through Xbox live because of the transfer problems (and cost). Rentals are over $5 for HD, and apparently if you buy a game or extra content for a game it can't be moved to a new Xbox. One only has to read the Xbox forums to see all the problems people had when their Xbox died and they tried to transfer their games to a new Xbox. MS going BD only has token meaning. Until they fix their issues, it'll only be the "red headed step child" compared to the PS3 for HDM. That's saying something considering I don't particularly care for Sony as a company, I don't own a PS3, I think the games selection for the PS3 blows, and I love my Xbox for playing games. DRM sucks no matter the company or the system.

I've been bitching about the DRM on the XBOX forums (and to various Microsoft personnel) for the longest time. But nothing has happened. The DLC DRM is one area where MS has dropped the ball. Not that Sony's download 5 times and then you have to rebuy it policy is any better. These companies need to come up with better schemes.
