Xbox Do You Use Your Console As Main DVD Player??

How many of you use your 360/Xbox/PS3 as your main DVD player? Do you use it often?. Do you think its safe to use a videogame machine as a main DVD player? ie do you think the lazer will ware out faster??

No... I use my PS3 as a BD player, and my 360 as an HD DVD player, but I have an upconverting Sony DVD player for normal DVDs.

I don't even like using the PS3 as a BD player, I worry about wearing it out... I'll get a stand-alone at some point.

I've been using the HDAO/360 as my main HD DVD player and since it is a separate unit from the 360, I'm not concerned about the wearing out of the laser as you infer.

I've still got my trusty 10+ year old Sony DVD player (DVP-S725D) and I have a couple of year old Samsung DVD player (DVD-HD850) for upscaling. I use my 360 for HD DVDs.

I use the PS3 as primary BD player but do not use it for DVDs.

360 - nope
Add-on - I've used it 3 or 4 times, have had it half a year or so now.

It was my backup HD DVD player.

Now it will be my backup DVD player.

No...I have a second PS3 for Blu Ray in the main media/family room (as opposed to the PS3 in my gaming room, for games only)...and I use an Oppo upconverter in the media/family room for DVD.

I am strongly considering buying a PS3 this weekend just for the purpose of watching blu ray movies. Im a slow gamer and I can only go through about 3 to 4 games a year, but I cant justify passing up a top gaming system for a $100 more than the cheapest stand alone blu ray player. Does anyone think I should think differently ?

The PS3 is a superb Blu Ray player, thats all I use it for. It should be noted that it's piss poor for upconverting DVDs though, likely as the feature was an afterthought for some reason.

My brother picked up Sony's PlayStation 2 because he wanted to use it also as a DVD player.

When I had my 60GB, I mainly used for BD's.

No. My dvd player does the job it's supposed to. The dvd player does its job and the gaming console does its job.

When I wanna watch an hd dvd the gaming console helps out as a bridge.

I love this "wears out the laser faster" when watching your movies on a game machine. My launch PS2 was my main dvd player for about 2 years (until the real dvd players came down in price and i got a Stereo TV) I still have my launch system which is being used by my brother while he is at school and has had no problems with the movies/games on the system. Almost 8 1/2 years now and still going strong.

Currently only my PS3 is being used as my main Blu-ray player (Who isn't doing this really, and will probably buy a stand alone player some day) For upconverting my regular dvds. I'm just sticking with my HD-A1 player for that

XBox360 used for gaming only, no DVDs, no HDAO.

PS3 purchased specifically as a BD player. I have 2 games for it.

I don't think the upconversion is all that bad. In fact, compared to my old standalone Sony DVD player, it looks much better.

I picked up my PS2 back in 2003 (as I recall) to use as a DVD Player when my Pioneer DVL-919 started having problems. It was too expensive for me to fix or replace, at the time.

Now it's not even plugged in.

Similar, except I have an HD-A2 for HD-DVD's, but I use my PS3 as a dedicated BD player and have an upconvert player for my SD-DVD's.

So now I have an issue... got my new 1080p TV and my upconverting DVD player is only 1080i... DVDs now look a lot better on my PS3, but I don't want to wear that thing out using it for all my movie watching...

Arg.

Well, I am now a proud owner of a PS3. I plan on using it primarly as my blu-ray dvd player with the occasional game. I have a question though. I thought the game system came with 5 free movies via mail in rebate but I didn't see anything in the box regarding this. Is this offer for all current PS3's or just certain stores? I did get the Spiderman 3 movie.

Just got home with my second BD player...er...PS3.

BestBuy mailed me a coupon for a 20% discount on a HD-DVD or Blu-ray player, so I went to see if it would work on a PS3. It didn't but the manager OK a discount override for me anyway. Out the door for $319.99 plus tax. My first one cost me $299.99. Not too shabby.

No, but I use it as my main bd player.

I use the hd-a2 for my dvd watching...mainly as a means to save use from the ps3. But if the ps3 is already on, I do watch dvds on it.

PSX was my 1st music player and the day i bought it from there on i only bought music CD's.

PS2 was my 1st dvd player and since then i only bought dvd movies.

PSP was my 1st MP3 player and since then i said bye bye to portable cd players.

PS3 is my 1st Blu-ray player and since then i only buy Blu-ray.

Gotta love PLayStation products, the multi media features is one of the main reasons i love them.

What about a modded XBOX for XBMC?

Great DVD play back, unless you are watching an interlaced video, then it looks like crap. For normal movies flagged at 24P, I would highly recommend XboxMediaCentre, it has overscan adjustments, play from network shares, all kinds of cool crap. It's all the XBOX is used for.
