PS3 PS3 - Space Issues

Currently have 16 games for the Ps3 & after my latest purchases, I put in the Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools Of Destruction game. I got a message which stated the system needed 419MB of free space before I could continue with the install.

Before deleting stuff, I checked how much physical memory the harddrive actually has. 40/55GB!!! Ahhhhhhhh

I deleted 2 HD trailers & tried again. This time it installed & the game works fine.

So I am bit confused as to why I had to delete stuff to play this game in the first place. I have 40GB & needed only 419MB.

Has anyone else encoutered this "space" problem?

My system is the 60GB version.

You have encountered the Ratchet and Clank bug.

Here is the official statement:

Quote:
"We recently discovered a bug on the US version of Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction that some of you may encounter the first time you boot the game," Insomniac community manager James Stevenson told Shacknews. "With specific amounts of free space on your drive, you may see a screen that tells you have insufficient space to create game data even though there is plenty of free space on your drive."

Fortunately, the workaround is a relatively simple one. "When this occurs, either delete or add about 500MB of data to your hard drive and the problem will go away," wrote Stevenson. While this may seem a lofty chore to some, the abundance of downloads in the online PlayStation Store means that relief is, at best, a matter of deleting an old demo or two, and at worst, the task of downloading of a few additional files.
Not sure if anything has changed since the game's launch.

I had the same problem, I think adding stuff will do the same trick if you don't want to delete anything.

Thanks for that info.

The trailers I got rid of were older ones I own already on BD, so no real loss.

A good portion of them need to be installed to counteract the slow BD load times.

You install a little bit for some titles... like 1 or 2 gig on 1 out of every 3 games.
