Used or new systems?

I've been thinking here lately about buying a PS2 again. I had one and sold it so I could get an XBox a few years back. For some reason I didn't want two systems. The PS2 has always been my favorite system. I have the cash to pick up either a new or used system. However I was at a local Gamestop and the sell both new and used system. New system are $129 I think. The used systems are $89 and have an optional $10 warranty that extendends the used systems for a year. From what I understand the warranty covers almost everything except pulling it off the shelf onto the floor. So any thoughts on new vs old?

Oh yeah the PS3 80GB model is more than I want to spend.

My thoughts are usually buy systems new. The PS2 I would definitely buy it new with all the problems the older models had. Especially that way you can get the color you want and the slim design if you want. The used ones are probably the bigger ones (unless that is what you want). I used to work at Gamestop part time to get the discount the warranty does cover just about anything. Just don't open it up or break the seals on it or it voids your warranty. Also if you do buy one used make sure the seals are still on them for warranty purposes. Depending on the person that took it in it might not have them.

Can you find yourself a used 20, 60 or 80GB PS3. Get into PS3 gaming, Blu-ray and your PS2 games as well. I think you can find them at soem stores for about $300-350 when what i have been reading on the IGN Boards. Its an extra bit of cash but with more bells and whistles.

If not then i guess what ever way you go you have a 1 years warrenty on a PS2 system. I personally prefer new because you know what has happened to it since it was taken out of the package. Although it didn't stop me from getting a busted new PS3 system abut a year ago. (although great service from Sony. New system within 3 days of sending system out) Although my launch PS2 system is still going amazingly strong

Well the Gamestop near me doesn't have any used PS3's and that is a little more money than I was planning on spending because I plan on buying a flash unit for my digital camera and a new lens and together that is going to cost me about $300 - $400.

Who voted for me to crawl back into my hole?

I can only say

For $29 more you get a new system which...or does it...have a warranty?

I'd go new. And no, it wasn't me. Honest.

I don't know if it's going to be a permanent price drop, but Target will have the PS2 on sale for $99 starting 2/24. I came across this at cheapassgamer.

I would wait it out a few weeks and get a new system for the same price Gamestop is selling their used systems w/warranty.

Well between now and then I may be able to scrape together $99. I have a travel check out and that would let me get one. The damn house screwed me over on a minor project that took more work and resources than I thought it would. Also I checked out that several games are scheluded for release for the PS2 all through 2008. Thanks for the heads up.

With the price of the PS2, go new and buy it online.

Well for what it's worth I picked up a new PS2 at Target yesterday for $99. It's back and oh so small. I miss the sliding disc tray but that was a novelty. The wife gave me $50 she had to buy 2 games. I got Black and Fight Night Round 2. I hooked it up via Optical Audio into my receiver this morning. I can't wait to play Black this evening. The controller was like an old friend and fit like a glove.

So I would like to say Thanks to The Dude for his heads up on the sale.

May this thread rest in piece.
