Gibson suing Guitar Hero?

WTF?

So, if I'm reading all this nonsense correctly, Gibson, who has been partnering with the GH franchise for years, has suddenly decided that GH is infringing on their patent? Not only that, but is now going after retailers to stop selling it?

I could understand this if a) GH just came out, and b) if there weren't Gibson branded controllers. But, since they're already making money on this...give me a break.

Updated:

If I followed my own links, this would have made more sense. From Activision:
Quote:
"As Activision noted in its filing, Gibson waited three years to make its patent allegations, and only did so after it became clear that Activision was not interested in renewing its marketing and support agreement with Gibson. Activision continues to believe that Gibson's claims are disingenuous and lack any justification."
So, Gibson's just pissed because there will no longer be a Gibson branded Guitar Hero guitar.

Yeah Gibson is pissed. Unfortunately for them there are plenty of other guitar manufacturers that would love the exposure that this medium would and will bring. Apparently they saw the quality job Harmonix did in making the fender. Too bad it doesn't work as good as it looks.

This lawsuit holds no water and Gibson is about to lose alot of money trying to take it to court.

yeah, on the surface, this lawsuit looks like it was filed by people ignorant of the patent process, and how far away their patent is from the realised Guitar Hero product.

If anyone should be pissed it's the Dance Dance Revolution creators (maybe the same guys, I'm too lazy to look it up).

They mention that it was a VR device? WTF? I guess you never know until you see the patent but unless the idea includes 5 colored buttons and a UI that has the "highway of notes" coming at you I think they are screwed.

Well as far as this thread goes you didn't kill it. Theres just nothing really to talk about here. Gibson is making a laughing stock out of themselves with this law suit, everyone knows it has no merit and I'm betting everyone here agrees.

As far as the hardware section.... yeah the lynch mob will be there tomorrow, and no I'm not talking about the 80s metal group featuring George Lynch.
