Nothing decent to play on it anyway that you can't get better on the 360. I only use my PS 3 (known around here as the BR 3) for Blu Ray movies too. Dolby True HD and DTS HD Master audio definitely worth the BR purchase.

I am totally happy with my purchase I tired the Resistance Demo and it was like meh I guess I am too used to Gears And Halo ect. Spiderman 3 looks great I may watch Rambo tonight as well. The PS3 sure is a fingerprint and dust magnet, the machine had prints on it before I even touched it must have been from the factory. Other then that I am happy with the PS3. BLU FTW

Indeed.

CARS is the best looking CG animated film on either HD format so far imo. Also if you have a 5.1 surround sound system your ears are in for a treat as well. Highly recommended.

Not much of PS3 gamer. The only title which seems to see any action on my PS3 is GTA 4.

Ya should rent or demo MotorStorm.

I think the only real complaints about the PS3 is downloading & the dust factor.

Congrats on the Purchase.

I'm thinking of getting another one before Sony puts out a newer model cause I hear IBM is going to be trimming down the current Cell processor.

I was only compairing Resistance too Gears of War I have not played any of the other games.

I have cars on dvd and to me it looks so good it looks like blu. I just finnished watching I Robot on dvd and it also looked really good. My tv only does up 2 1080i. I have it set to 720p. A question that has been on my mind is. What looks better in 720p a dvd upcoverted? or a blu ray down scaled? For me is it worth Blu will it look better then an upconverted dvd on my 32inch. I do know this PS3 makes my dvd look great compaired to my phillips dvp5900 upconverting dvd player

Also i would like to add that if you thought Cars looked Blu-rayish already then trust me when i tell you that the Blu-ray is SO MUCH BETTER then the dvd. The 5.1 PCM track and the colours are just amazing. It was an easy switch for me from my dvd to the Blu-ray version.

I just finnished waching Rambo in 720p it was good looking for the most part, there was some grain at parts though. However the audio was amazing even on my cheap 5.1 simulated surround sound system the sound was much sharper and clear'er then any of my dvd's. I have learned blu rays can look bad just as dvd's can look as good as blu ray's its all about the trasfrier of the film to the disc. So I intend to research movies online before I buy them. Anyone know of a Pristine Blu other then Cars? I dont feel like buying the same movie twice yet.

Well they said that about the PS2 with the dvd movies. It was my dvd player for about 2 years before i went a standalone player. It was a launch unit and sure enough it still works fine today for movies and games. Brother was using it last year at College. So really i wouldn't worry about it

Ok cool thanks for the info. As PS3 for me is all about dvd/blu rays. with a little bit of gaming not much cause I think my 360 handles my gamming needs quite well. I love movies thus i got a PS3 for Blu. My next Blu will be Halloween 1978 and Lost Boys. Anyone one know If Christmas Vacation is worth it? It is my all time fave Christmas movis and of course it gets watched quite a bit around Christmas. I have the DVD, just wondering if the Blu is such an improvment over the DVD that it is worth getting.

Thanks
BSW

I'd avoid Halloween as it is DNR'd to death and the color balance is off in the night scenes. It will be rereleased in the future for sure. IMO the Anchor Bay DVD that was part of the multi-disc Limited Edition and later rereleased by itself is the best version of this movie to date. The Divimax/Blu-ray edition is higher resolution but color is off and DNR is heavy. Thus I'd go with the Dean Cundey-approved DVD. It just feels creepier than the rather sterile look of the Blu-ray's night scenes.

Lost Boys is a good pick. Christmas Vacation is an improvement over the DVD, but not a huge one.

I still think people are blowing the color scheme way out of proportion for Halloween. BSW, if you want to see Halloween look the best it has, then you can probably get this movie on the cheap. Sure it will be rereleased again as a double (triple? quintiple?) dip, but despite DNR being given, the bd version has incredible detail and color enhancement. I recommend it for what it's worth.

I still haven't seen any blu-ray films and at the moment am only considering the PS3 as a blu-ray investment for the future.

It's current game library doesn't impress me for the most part excluding: MGS4/Resistance. Besides that most games are available on the 360, GTA IV etc.

Resistance, Uncharted and Ratchet are all amazing... anyone who denies that is a fanboy or doesn't like those genres at all.

I agree the 360 has more games, and Live + achievements mean the 3rd party games are better, but the PS3 holds its own. I own around 15 PS3 games, many exclusives, and have enjoyed playing them.

One other thing: any game with heavy d-pad usage you should get on PS3, as its d-pad is much, much better. I should have done this with Bionic Commando, but I forgot about it.

No. No more backwards compatibility since before the current 40GB version.

The last BC model was the Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle, as I understand it.

I'll bet anyone $100 they eventually release a fully software BC application through a firmware update.

I think there's more to it then just firmware. Backwards compatibility was removed to help lower the cost of the system. If it were just firmware the cost difference probably would have been negligible.
