Talking What do you guys think of Timesplitters 2?

what do you guys think of this kickass new goldeneye-ish game? Interested in the map-maker? multiplayer? weapons? options? I'm not really familiar with this game, so I'm curious on what the people here think...
I have Gamecube and I dont get Perfect Dark 2 :rar: so this game betta be good

I've played the demo on xbox and i must say it's very fluid. Very, very much like Goldeneye. I'm not a huge fan of console FPS's and I was impressed.

If they can keep the fluidness of the first game and the mission objectives worth my while (last game find a key and run back to the beginning) I think you will enjoy the game very much. The map maker is always fun to play with, multiplayer is just awesome and frantic. Hopefully they will allow full custom controll setup again for the controllers as the default control sucked.

IGN PS2 version got a 9.2 as a final score.

I played the demo for XBOX and I wasn't all too impressed. The game just seemed too "generic" for me. Nothing really too exciting; in fact I found myself bored with the demo pretty quickly. There are a number of FPS games coming out around XMAS for XBOX I'd buy instead, like Unreal Championship (online), Serious Sam, Medal of Honor: Frontline, James Bond 007: Nightfire, or even Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. Plus, with Solider of Fortune 2 (online), Halo 2 (online), Return to Castle Wolfenstein (online), Doom 3 (online), Half Life: Counterstrike (online), and Perfect Dark 2 (online?) coming for XBOX in 2003, I don't see any reason to have what I found to be a relatively uninspired and seemingly mediocre FPS game in my library. Of course, that's from playing the demo level - perhaps the retail game has more interesting levels and enemies.

I'm definitely getting Timesplitters 2 when it comes out for the Gamecube.

You mean the Perfect Dark 2 that's being made by Rare, right? The all-time king of delays? And there are no screenshots released--only a couple of drawings of the new Joanna Dark? Nintendo gamers know Rare. Count yourself lucky if you play that game before summer 2004--personally, I wouldn't expect it until that Christmas.

RARE is currently making their team bigger, so odds are they will be able to crank out stuff quicker. Also, I believe MS said 5 games over the next two years, with Kameo and Perfect Dark 2 first, so XMAS 2003 is not a reach for PD2, especially with the larger staff and likely larger money flow.

TimeSplitters 2!!! I am cranked to play this game!!!

Now that Nintendo have sold off Rare, this will be the perfect alternative to fill that void of Goldeneye style gameplay!!!

I've never had the opportunity to design my own multiplayer levels so this feature that TS2 is offering is a huge factor in my own hyping of the game. So hyped up about the game I am, that 4 of my Gamecube owning friends are excited to be buying the game as well to utilise this feature,so we can battle it out in our own little arenas. Memory card file copying, it would be a little bit like the Animal Crossing town visiting.

"WELCOME TO MY LAIR! PREPARE TO DIE!!!"

Much fun will be had from this month onward...

Some details on the Mapmaker feature!!!

EDIT: Sorry I couldn't upload the jpeg that had the details

A few brief details involve being able to set in windows and doors. You can have a 3D walkabout to view your map and make any adjustments needed (such as stairs not joining up), You can place lights in and have them flicker or pulsate or generally set the brightness of it.

And course heaps more!

I was able to play both demos for XBox and PS2. i thought the controls were really twitchy, and the targeting system i thought was annoying. I was really expecting real good things about this game, but so far it really has not impressed me all that much. I will most likely rent this one before i decide to buy.

spoiler----------

i was also majorly turned off by the fact you have to deal w/ zombies . I have never played the original, but this was a total turn off, i don't like the resident evil series, and more zombie like thinks just don't do it for me.

I also hate the fact how the screen turns red and the HUGE diplay of health/armour comes up when you get shot, really annoying. I don't remember it being this bad in GoldenEye or Perfect dark. oh well, wait and see!

If you have played the demo, it's the same as the standard single player mode. There is a little more added on to the end of the level, but that's it for the first level of the game. The single player is fun, but the heart of the game lies in its multiplayer. The only aspect of the multiplayer I did not like was the co-op missions. In Halo if one person dies, they can respawn once the other player is out of a fighting situation. In this game once you're dead....that's it you're dead until the other person dies or decides to start over.

I really didn't care much for this game. The story mode is still too short and I didn't like the arcade or challenge modes all that much. Everyone keeps talking about all the rewards you get for beating the challenges, but getting a new selectable character isn't really all that exciting and ammo isn't exactly hard to come by, so the unlimited ammo cheat really isn't enough incentive to keep trying for those gold medals.

From what I hear the map maker is excellent, but I've never been into those so I won't comment on that.

I suppose the multiplayer aspect of the game is pretty solid, but none of my friends are big gamers so it's hard to get one of them to sit down for an extended period of time to play. Had the developers kept the online play in the game, my opinion would be quite different. This game would kick so much ass online.

Still, the game is pretty darn fun for a couple of days. With all the games coming out in the next couple of weeks I can't imagine spending any more of my time with this one.

I got the Gamecube version of this game today and played it for about an hour. I don't know about the length of the thing, but I'm pretty blown away by it so far--I don't see anything not to like about it.

The story mode has ten missions, but the missions have three difficulty levels. They're similar to Perfect Dark, in that when you go through a level on Easy there will be many locked doors, but on Hard those doors will be unlocked (I presume) and will lead to new objectives. The enemy AI is pretty impressive: enemies are smart when they're fighting you, but not so smart that you can't use your sniper rifle now and again when they're standing with their backs to you. Current events aside, the sniper rifle was one of the best things about Goldeneye, and it's used well here. Even if the story mode is short, it's the kind of thing you'll want to go back to multiple times.

I was also amazed at how much the game just feels like Goldeneye: I can't explain why it has that GE feel while no other FPS does. It might have something to do with
Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):
the fact that the first level of the game, set at a dam, is clearly supposed to remind you of the first level of GE.

I played one of the multiplayer Challenges, and one of the Arcade rounds as well--I can't say if the multiplayer here is better than Halo, as some people on other gaming boards are alleging, but it certainly outdoes Perfect Dark, the previous best console FPS I've played. No drop in a very smoooth framerate, ultracool weapons that I won't spoil here, lots of gameplay styles, and a ridiculous amount of statistics tracking.

Go buy it now, I say.

From the reviews and new screenshots, it looks like the demo didn't represent the final game well. I'm going to be getting this afterall for XBOX, for free no less at Amazon.com thanks to Sycowulf (click here for the deal). Based on the comments about how great multiplayer is, it is a shame that this wasnt delayed a bit for internet play. Guess I will be using XBConnect for this one...

I bought this yesterday and I like it so far. It certainly does feel like Goldeneye - the menus, the music, and the controls. (and TS2 is nice and smooth, it doesn't have the jerkiness of Perfect Dark which is good.)

I only played the first level and messed around a little with the multiplayer.

My minor gripes so far is that:

1)Let me save those checkpoints!: :rar::

I was about 90% done with the Siberia level (I assume), but I died at the end. So it gave me a choice to start from the beginning or to start from the middle checkpoint. Unfortunately, it was late, and I turned the game off. I resumed this morning, and my checkpoint was gone! The levels are much longer in TS2 than Goldeneye, so I don't want to have to start from the beginning all the time.

2)The controls:

Actually, the controls are tight and pretty precise. My complaint is that I wish they allowed for more customization. The default scheme they give you is plain goofy and awkward. I had to experiment for some time to find the best scheme. The one i have now isn't the greatest, but it's the best for now. (I have to shoot with the "R" button. It feels weird, but I'll get used to it.)

Triple HHH: I don't know what console you're playing on, but on the Gamecube version I switched to the "Radical B" layout, which is the most like Goldeneye: control stick for moving and turning, C-stick for strafing and looking up/down. Nothing I could come up with in the Custom Controls menu was better than that.

I'd consider the Gamecube controls for TS2 to be the best I've ever played on a console FPS--the accuracy of using two analog sticks and shoulder buttons comes within a hair of matching a mouse/keyboard combo on a PC, and after having my reservations about the GC controller's oddball design at the system launch, I've now been proven wrong. I still miss the Z button on the N64 controller, which felt more like an actual trigger, but having the R button (fire) and the Z button (secondary fire) right next to each other makes up for it in my opinion.

Question about the gamecube controls:

When firing your weapon with the R button, is it required that you press R all the way down to its "click point" for every bullet?

I hope not. The L and R feel fragile to me.

Memory block:

What number of blocks does the game take up? Does it require extra blocks for mapmaker?

Thanks

No, you don't have to press L or R all the way down--just a little more than the minimum pressure. Not even halfway. That's actually pretty cool.

If I remember correctly, the game save takes 4 blocks. Supposedly maps take 1-4 blocks each, depending on complexity, but I haven't tried the mapmaker yet.

Really? News to me... I went to my local toys r us and they had timesplitters 2 for the xbox sitting right there on the shelf... grabbed it, blinx, and LOTR for 100 bucks, god I love deals like that!

As far as the game goes im only on the second level but so far so good. It seems to be a nice change of pace from the norm... given its no halo but its still a solid game, ill post more thoughts on it when i get a chance to play it a bit more

Well, I've put 11+ hours into it so far. All I have to say is, I hope you don't mind difficult games, 'cause this is one. There's something for everyone, of course (the story mode on easy is a joke, the normal difficulty isn't unreasonable, and the excellent arcade multiplayer is only as hard as you want it to be). But the people who truly get their money's worth will be those who don't mind playing through levels many times to perfect a run. (Mild spoiler follows)

Spoiler (Highlight or Triple Click to Read):
One pretty amazing Infliltration mission involves blowing up a radar dish and breaking into a building, while evading all guards and cameras: you have two minutes, a sniper rifle, and ten bullets. The game gives you a silenced pistol as well, but it's practically useless. It took me almost an hour of trying, but I felt like a rocket scientist when I finally figured that one out.

Prospero: Isnt that the first level you are talking about? If so I found the pistol to be of huge use, a headshot would take the guys down no problem....

I do have to agree though this is an exellent fps, havent gotten to try the mp out though, will do it this weekend....

Sycowulf--It's a section from the first mission, but it's in Arcade League, not Story mode. When I did it headshots with the pistol just seemed to annoy the guards, rather than put them down.

Roll call: who's playing and where are you in the game?

My stats: 54.0% complete, at about 18 hours, I think. I doubt I'm l33t enough to ever get 100% completion on this game--it looks like you have to beat story mode on hard and get gold trophies on all the arcade and challenge scenarios.

Story mode: I'm working on Return to Planet X (normal setting)
Arcade League: working on Nice Threads (one of the hardest damn levels ever)
Challenges: working on Where Do The Batteries Go? (which may be even harder than Nice Threads)

Timesplitters 2--full of that old-school difficulty. This reminds me of trying to unlock cheats in Goldeneye by beating time limits.
