How do I go online and play? I installed that Gamespy arcade crap and in the game, when I try to go to Multiplayer and pick a server, it tells me my thing is the wrong version! What the hell? I just bought it! It asks me if I want to download the new thing and I said yes, than it takes me online to a buncha links, it doesnt tell me what I need to d/l

Can someone please help me? I know some of this stuff may sound stupid but its my first computer game and I dont know what the hell Im doing.

Do you have onboard sound or a PCI sound card? If you checked the Readme file, EA has documented some known issues with certain audio cards / onboard audio processors, which I assume they're working on in the next patch. Sometimes, downloading the latest audio drivers might also rectify the problem.

I dont know about this game, but most online game release upgraded versions for server play. You need to go online find out which one you need and download the patch, should only take a few seconds they tend to be small downloads.

OK, I found 2 things that I needed to d/l. They are:

BF1942 Retail Patch
&
BF1942 Retail Server

I saved them, but when I try to open them I get something telling me:

This application may depend on other compressed files in this folder. For The application to run properly, it is reccomended that you first extract all files.

It gives me the option to EXTRACT ALL, RUN, or CANCEL

Since this is my first time doing any of this, I dont know what to Extract or anything. Id hate to screw up and mess up my game or something. Anyone know what I should do?

Thanks guys. All your help is appreciated.

OK, I just installed everything (I think) I hope I didnt fuck up, I just went with what it told me and installed everything.

Now what should I do? Should I delete the Compressed Zip folders and keep the ones I extracted or keep em all, or delete em all?

I just tried it out and everything starts fine, but when I pick to play multiplayer, than choose interent, everything freezes! The music still plays perfectly, but the background cinema freezes, so does my mouse, and nothing happens, just music playing. I dont know whats wrong Anyone know how I can fix this?

I just d/l the single player demo tonight. I can't get it to work. The first time I tried it, it got almost all the way through loading the level and then the computer sounded an alarm I've never heard before and then locked up. It sounded at first like the firewall alarm going off but upon rebooted, I disabled that and tried to run the game again with the same result. Also, now another problem has occurred in that the video (even on the first logo screen) starts to flicker. I can select another resolution and it might straighten it out but then it starts again. I cannot find a patch that is just for the single player demo.

I have an ATI Radeon 8500 with latest drivers.

This game looked fun on TV last night. Oh, well.

There's a commercial?

Anywho, this BF1942 tweak guide may (or may not) help you with the demo. I'm running the retail version (w/ 1.2 patch installed) using a Radeon 8500 and there are some sound issues that cropped up after I applied the latest patch. Another patch should be out soon, and I plan to do a re-install of WinXP in the near future.

What are your hardware specs? In case you didn't know already, BF1942 is a resource hog.
