Which PS2 Fighting Game is Better?
Virtua Fighter 4 is better than Tekken (haven't rented or bought the fourth installment, which got a B grade from EW), even though the commercials for Tekken 4 are more funnier than the VF4 ones. It's also because of the addictive Kumite mode, where you can name and customize your fighters, RPG-style (ranking from 10th kyu to Emperor). There is no Story mode, and I hope VR5 (which should be made on a DVD-ROM) has a story mode, more fighters, and a Final Fight-like mode and compatibility with the left analog stick. Better music should help, too.

No doubt that Virtua Fighter 4 kicks both Tekken game's asses to the ground. Now real competition for VF at all until Soul Calibor 2 is released. My favourite Fighting Game so far.

I grew up with the Tekken series, but I will concede that VF4, as fighters go, occupy slightly more of my playing time than Tekken 4. Both games are balanced in their controls and depth, and I'm fortunate that I don't have to decide which to buy.
![]() With that said, the fighting game I want above all others is Soul Calibur 2.

![]() The fact remains that, as far as fighting games go, the PS2 still owns. If I were searching for an opinion on the best PS2 fighting game, then this is what I'm solely after. I have no interest in what's available for the Gamecube (even though I have one) or the XBOX. As it stands, both VF4 and Tekken 4 rate very highly with game reviewers because they're top-notch in their overall execution. The need to interject with an XBOX alternative into every opinion/poll is getting really old.

Thank you DVDriven
![]() Now onto my pick. I am going to be biased on the selction of fighting games. I have always leaned towards Tekken as opposed to Virtua Fighter. But even this cannot stop the truth. Namco has let me down ![]() Namco has taken Tekken 4 and actually tossed out alot of what made the previous versions fun. Tag mode is gone. The large seemingly endless areas of fighting is out. If I wanted walls, I'd bust out my Dreamcast and Dead or Alive 2. The controls even feel, for a lack of a better word, sloppy. I hate to pass the crown but I think VF4 is the way to go now. Or just wait for Soul Calibur 2 ![]() Are the graphics great? On both games, hell yeah!!!! Do the graphics make the game, sadly no. Damn you Namco for making me turn to Virtua Fighter.. weep... ![]() |

All I said was beware, there is a second version on the way. It's like a double dip, and for someone like me who owns an XBOX, it's frustrating because every good PS2 game seems to get re-released on the XBOX six months later with new features. It's gotten to the point that unless it is a stated "PS2 exclusive" I will not buy it. EDIT: I rented this, didn't buy it. Last edited by MooglePorn : 11-09-2002 at 10:17 PM. |

well i dont know about u but im definetly buying it. from what i hear the graphics on it are pretty damn good already. and for $20 on PS2 i wouldnt consider the XBOX. a couple graphic enhancements isnt gonna convince me to spend $30 more. hey u can put that extra $30 toward another XBOX game.....like say....Shenmue II
