I got Vice City!
Wow does this game rock pick it up now! I love the whole 80's theme and now you can ride bikes too, but beware the city is like a maze the streets don't seem as wide. The music is great when I first heard michcal jackson come on a laughed so hard I drove my damn car right into the river. There is a ton of cars you can shoot out tires to the whole game just has so much stuff to do in it. I will post more on it later but for now I got to get back to playing!

Agreed, very fun game. Madmartigan was right though, the city is like a maze. I've taken it slow with the missions and have spent some time just driving around, trying to get a feel for the layout of the city. It makes things easier later on.

I just played for about two hours and there are some great things in this game. It's much bigger in scope than the last game and there is much more interaction. Being able to enter buildings this time around is a huge plus and I am amazed by the amout of music in this game. Riding motocycles is cool and cars seem to handle better.
I will say that I did expect the graphics to be better but they actually seem weaker. |

I could have picked it up yesterday, but decided to go with Amazon for my order because my TRU sold out of the title(s) I wanted for my freebie, which means I'll need to wait a bit longer.
Has anyone picked up the 7-CD boxset? I can't seem to find a track listing online, so I'll have to check on it later today at Best Buy. If there's a decent compilation, I'll probably spring for it.

Mild spoiler-
There are some little touches in the game that make you realize things that weren't in the first game such as only one person in each car in the first game and this one has multiple people and the passenger freaks out when you take the car. |

Whats the point of view of this game?? Ive seen the Playstaion one (part 1 I Think) and it looked like a stupid ole RPG with only a top view of the game and it looked like little micro machines driving around. But from the commercails Ive seen on the new ones it looks like the playstation game DRIVER. Which I loved!
So whats this game like? |

GTA3 and GTA: VC are nothing like the original GTA 1 and 2. Well, somewhat like, but still extremely different...
GTA3 and GTA: VC are played from a third person perspective and the whole city is rendered in 3D, so you can basically walk anywhere or drive there. If you like Driver, I would say without a shadow of a doubt you will like this game. GTA3 and GTA: VC are like Driver on massive steroids.

I picked up Vice City yesterday and it is infinitely better than GTA3. More weapons, vehicles, motorcycles, helicopters, melee weapons, everything is way better.
SPOLIER WARNING Im at the mission for avery orders you to kill the guy on the golf course. Its great!

If you look around you can find weapons lying everywhere. Also, you keep your weapons as long as you stay alive, so if you save often you can re-load rather than die, which means you'll have tons of weapons in no time.
As for the game, it's more GTA3 with some cool additions and fixes, which is exactly what I wanted. Excellent game!!! From another thread by me: I would have liked to have an XBOX version though, for the progressive scan support and for the ability to make your own radio stations. That would have been fucking cool. Hey Man here's the weapons code for vice city.........R2,R2,R1,R2,L1,R2,L,D,R,U,L,D,R,U........The last part just start at left and go counter clockwise on the D-PAD a few times and you with have all weapons and ammo. NOTE you have to do the code a few times to build up your ammo just like in GTA3. Hope that helps!

Progressive scan probably doesn't come close to the resolution of a computer monitor.

No, but I was thinking that you couldn't compare progressive scan PS2 on a TV to the resolution the PC port will have. The PC'll (eventually
In general, I don't want to DWONGRADE to a PS2. I have better hardware, better inputs (mouse/keyboard/etc), better output, better everything than a PS2. I couldn't see myself tying up the TV, playing a lower-quality port with a clunky controller. I'd be smackin' myself in the noggin'. But damn these exclusive releases. Talk about a will-bender.

Got the game on release day and while I've only played it for about a total of 3 or 4 hours (most of which was just cruising around, listening to the radio) I love it already. The police are definitely a bigger pain in the ass I find, but I guess that just makes it more challenging. Also, the graphics aren't as improved as I'd hoped, but I can look past that for this otherwise veryt fun (so far) game.
Got a question: How worthwhile is the "Official" Vice City Strategy Guide (or any strategy guide for that matter, I've never bought one)? Is it worth buying for tips on tougher missions/ finding weapons/ hidden packages or does it just list the "plot" of the game for you, etc? Would the eventual online FAQs be more useful (especially since their free) or does the strategy guide have some merit? Thanks Last edited by Marq : 10-31-2002 at 06:08 PM. |

i doubt that there will be a pc port of Vice City for a while due to the fact that gta3 took about 8 months to finally port to pc after its release on ps2.

OK, I have a big gripe: Is anyone else having a problem with cars VANISHING from your save garage???? I put a Taxi and a Pizza Delivery Bike in my save garage and they vanished a few saves later. What's up with that? They never vanished in GTA3!!! What about exclusive cars like the bulletproof limo and shit? Will we not be able to save these? What's the point of the garages if they dont save anything??? |

Actually, I'm extremely happy with the soundtrack for this game and that particular '80's radio feel is absolutely essential to the mood and atmosphere of this game. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City isn't like Tony Hawk or Project Gotham where plugging in your own soundtrack doesn't effect the gameplay. |

I like the 80's music as well, and it does make the mood, but after playing for 30 hours or so and hearing every song fifty times I would like the ability to create my own radio stations. You can't tell me it wouldn't be a nice option...

Yes, some of the properties you buy have garages. I don't think that's a spoiler cause it's in the booklet.
As for glitches, there's the huge ass one I mentioned above. That garage thing really pisses me off. Other than that, I have only noticed minor things like hands through walls and stuff. Hopefully the garage one is the only major one... |
