Is SSX Tricky worth $20?

My local Sam Goody has marked down SSX Tricky for Gamecube down to $20. Who's played it? Should I snatch it up?

It is very fun. The PS2 version is the best of the three consoles, but the GC and XBOX versions aren't bad. I would be no question for me. Definitely check it out.

I really really like that game. I used to have it on PS2 but now I have a Gamecube and would love to find a cheap copy... Although I think I'd rather get NBA Street first... Gotta love EA Sports BIG.

It is a great game, and a definate steal for $20. I keep both of them around (SXX and SXX Tricky), since they're are both rather different (some of the updated courses look nothing like the original).

Pssst.....eBay

The only game I'm missing under the BIG banner is Freekstyle, but only because I'm waiting for it to go on sale. $20 for the Gamecube version is as good a deal as you would find for one of the best snowboarding games (and I've played my fair share, although I prefer them on my PS2)

The way i feel about the game is that its just a rehashed SSX rushed to feed off the former hype of SSX, if you have the first SSX, dont bother getting it, its just rehash.

I would have boughten all the EA Big titles if not for the crappy Sled Storm... ugh...

BTW, SSX Tricky is the best snowboarding game out there. The only other top snowboarding game is the original SSX. So GO GET NOW!!!

Only thing is the only similarity SSX Tricky and Amped have is that they both use snowboards... Otherwise they are two totally different games. Amped is more like a THPS or Shaun Palmer game where all that matters is tricks whereas SSX Tricky is at heart a racing game.

In any event I bought SSX Tricky for the PS2 at full price and played the hell outta it... I would have to definitely say that it is worth the 20$...

Anyone know if the GC and Xbox versions have the DVD like extras that the ps2 version has? Just curious, as that was a damn nice added feature

Well, I got it--SSX Tricky is so worth $20.

Sycowulf--the GC version has a "making of" video in the menu, though I haven't watched it yet.

Where exactly are you getting this information?

To quote IGN:

Quote:

http://xbox.ign.com/articles/166/166593p1.html

Graphics
"The Xbox game is the best looking and smoothest of all the versions of Tricky..."

Closing Comments
"...So if you played it to death or missed SSX on the PS2, on Xbox you're getting the best version possible."
Gamespy:

Quote:

http://www.gamespy.com/reviews/decem...ssxtrickyxbox/

"But anyone who's tried SSX Tricky knows that isn't the case, as Tricky packs in a lot of new stuff, tweaks the play a bit, and adds a lot of extras. And you know what? It's just a bit better on the Xbox too."
Gamepro:

Quote:

http://www.gamepro.com/microsoft/xbo...ws/19783.shtml

"SSX Tricky on the Xbox is certainly the best-looking of its siblings"
I could go on, but it's pretty clear that the PS2 version isn't the "best".

SSX Tricky is available for XBOX for 19.99 at EBgames.com, BestBuy.com, and most game stores. Then again, I'd take Amped: Freestyle Snowboarding over Tricky any day of the week. SSX Tricky's controls and gameplay don't make it feel like you are snowboarding IMO, just racing down a hill with something. Amped really gives you the feel that you are snowboarding, and is far more realistic, which is what I like about it.

I never said that SSX Tricky on the XBOX isn't the best looking of the versions. I said the PS2 version is the best.

The PS2 version doesn't have the same slowdown problems that the XBOX version does. This is backed up by EGM and a couple other places. I agree, both the GC and XBOX versions look a bit better than the PS2 version, with the XBOX version edging out the GC version. But considering I have played both the PS2 and XBOX versions, I will stand by my view that the PS2 is better. I haven't played the GC version, so I am totally basing that off other opinions. Hope that helps ya!

Hey, I have an idea--why don't we try having a discussion about games that doesn't turn into a debate about which console gets the marginally, insignificantly better version? Again, I just wanted to know if the game was worth $20. Which it is. I mean, seriously:

Quote:
Hypothetically posted by Prospero:

Should I get the two-disc version of The Fellowship of the Ring, or wait for the four-disc version?
Quote:
Hypothetical response:

I recommend that you watch the four-disc version on the Xbox, which has superior playback to the PS2 at a low additional cost. And the Gamecube can't even play DVDs. Also, with the patented power of BLiNX(tm) the Timesweeper, you can travel through time with a "rewind" and "fast-forward" function! You can skip the parts you find boring, or watch the battle with the Balrog over and over again!
All we are saaaaying, is give peace a chance.

Just wanted to point out I was not the one to bring up other platforms in this thread, and when I responded to another post that did, I listed several specific technical comparisons currently readable by anyone to back up my response, instead of only citing personal preference/experience or marketing BS as your hypothetical situation infers. I also responded to your original question, as well, in the second paragraph.

If Gamecube is the only console you own, SSX Tricky is the best snowboarding game available for it, so it is worth the $20.

I agree Amped is cool if you want realism, but to me SSX Tricky seems to be more "fun" right out of the box, regardless of system. Does it have slowdowns at times? Sure, but who cares. As long as I can get my tricky meter up, im cool

In essence, SSX is the Blitz of snowboarding, while Amped is the NFL/Madden of snowboarding.

True, its more of a raw game as opposed to a more refined sim.

But hey, nothing wrong with putting down NFL 2k3 to pick up on some Blitz

I dunno where you're shopping, but at my TRU we've had the price for Freekstyle at $20 for a month now.

SSX Tricky has the honor of possessing the only physics engine that has actually made me laugh out loud. It's still a kickass game, though. EA Big rules.

Wal-Mart also has it at this price, so probably isn't too hard to find if you look around some places. Enjoy, a great game.

One thing that's good is that the Xbox and GC version of SSX is an updated one (hence the "Tricky" title) so there is an extra level and new "Uber" special moves. Some of them are super flashy and fun to watch.

And speaking of EA games, do you guys think NBA Street is worth purchasing? I believe it's $30 now, but I was always unsure.

This is half true. There were two SSX games on the PS2. The first, just called SSX, released along side the system's launch. SSX Tricky, the sequel, released the following year, along with teh GC and XBOX versions. So SSX Tricky is on all three systems.

Triple HHH--I paid $50 for NBA Street and it was worth every penny. (I've seen it around for $20 these days, though.) You get a great in-game commentator, no-fouls basketball, the voice of Michael Jordan, "real" NBA players mixed in with crazy EA Big characters, unlockable stuff, and lots of crazy tricks. The trick system is the best I've seen in a console game with respect to ease of learning--you can button-mash and get a couple of things down, but the "dinner's served" dunk, the best in the game, takes a lot of practice.

Yeah--go buy it.

I forgot to respond to your second comment Triple H, but like Prospero said, NBA Street is worth every penny. I think it's one of the best multiplayer games out there right now. Kind of like NBA Jam of old, but more skill based, I think. I doubt you would regret it.
