Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003
Well, I went against what I had promised myself I would not do and drove to my local Funcoland at like 8:55 last night and picked this up.
Pretty cool! The new swing mechanism is neat, but it makes me a little weary thinking of how long it's going to take to master. I've been a little irritated with putting so far, but I think it's just because I'm still a little unclear on the HUD, etc. I think the addition of the speed/skill games makes this a pretty fun, replayable title. Anyone else tried it yet? |

I haven't seen it on the shelf yet for the Gamecube. But once I do I probably won't be able to resist it. I want a good golf sim, and Nintendo/Camelot are taking their sweet time with the GC Mario Golf (previous best golf sim ever).

It looks like a solid golf game, I'm just wondering if it will offer the same fun Outlaw Golf does...

You know, I've never played Outlaw Golf, but I think that there are aspects of TWPGA 03 that are similar... They've added in some interesting "characters" besides the actual PGA golfers... For example, there's this giant Hawaiian fellow... And they've got a lot that have to be unlocked. Also, there are fantasy courses that look pretty cool... I think they've tried to deliver a game to satisfy the hardcore people who want a realistic sim, AND those that want a faster paced, arcade-y game. The mini-games are really fun and fast.
I too would like to see Mario Golf on the GC one day... |

All the stuff you're mentioning was included in last year's version as well, quite a long time before Outlaw Golf actually. I keep reading all these comments about the "new" swing system and such, and it makes me think that not very many people played Tiger 2002. That's really too bad, as it was an excellent game. A bit on the easy side maybe, but a load of fun none the less
![]() My copy of 2003 is still sitting at home in the wrapper (damn you Tony Hawk and Vice City!!!), but from what I understand, 2003 keeps all that was great from last year (and that's a lot) and just heaped a bunch more characters and courses on it ![]() |

Don't get me wrong, I thought Outlaw Golf was fantastic, and I think that their "composure" meter (or whatever it was called), should be copied a lot more.
My only real problems with OG was that the juvinile humor got a little old after a while, and it was just so damn hard!!! I don't mind a little challenge in my games, but I found OG to be downright frustrating That being said, yes, for the other side of the equation (real courses/golfers/etc), you should definately give Tiger 2003 a try ![]() |

I got TW2003 last night for the Gamecube, and I've played for about an hour or so. The control system feels more like actual golf compared to the conventional "three-click" system, but the trade-off for that is a relatively steep learning curve: driving and approach shots aren't terribly hard, but putting (at least initially) seems wonky as all hell (primarily because there's no way to bring up a grid that shows you the lie of the green, just like in real life). On the other hand, the hole seems to have an industrial-strength magnet attached to it: I've already gotten two holes in one (including one in my very first shot of non-tutorial play). That's two more than I ever got playing Mario Golf, and I even unlocked Bowser in that game after six holes of sudden death.
Great graphics, and amazing sound (not counting the music, which thankfully you can turn off: would've preferred some ambient or trance instead of Saliva and Silverchair). I even got the in-game ambient sound confused with what was going on outside my apartment. Any reservations I have concerning gameplay may be eliminated when I deal with the learning curve a bit more: we'll see.

I agree totally. Also, the "caddie tips" leave much to be desired when putting. I even overcompensate and still come up short a lot when following their advice. And I know what you mean about the hole in ones! I got two right off the bat as well!
