Where's Mario RPG? I have to give props to Super Mario World. First Mario game (IIRC) that wasn't totally linear.

Seriously, I left it off because it's entirely different, you could say Paper Mario or even Wario Land as well, but I stuck to the true Mario games...

Yoshi's Island...ahhh fond summer 1995 memories after a 4 year wait for a new Mario.

That game was sprinkled with original Nintendo goodness. So many genuine gameplay surprises, the unique Super FX chip effects, the art design... and sadly overlooked by gamers who flocked to the less in depth eyecandy of DKC 2 released around the same time.

I bought that game the day it came out, and regretted every moment of it. When I had it finished it the next day I sold it to a friend at work for his 5 year old, and I think it found the right age group...god I hated that game. It had some cool effects, and great graphics but it was too childish for my liking. Each to their own I guess.

No offence but that is the worst Mario game, next was Super Mario Bros 2, that game is so un-mario it sucked (I did however play it enough to master it, and bought it for GBA, so I guess it is a good game, just not a good Mario game )

I think you are confusing Yoshi's Island on SNES with Yoshi's Story on N64. They're two totally different games, and while Yoshi's Story is a fairly bland game, Yoshi's Island is a true classic. Then again, maybe there is no confusion.

I like Super Mario Bros 2 a lot, but then again, I can agree in a way it doesn't totally feel like a Mario game. Still a lot of fun, though.

Yoshi's Island is probably my second favorite... look past the "kiddie" visuals and you will find a tremendously deep and satisfying platform game...

If I remember correctly, Super Mario Bros - The Lost Levels was released in Japan as Super Mario Bros. 2, but Nintendo of America thought it was to hard for American audiences so they released our Super Mario Bros 2 out here, which was based on some other game called Panic something (I can't remember the exact name), and they switch characters to Mario ones. So thats why it is a good game, but not a good Mario game (in my opinion of course).

I never played Yoshi's Story with the N64, I didn't like the N64 so I sold that a week after it came out (damn I used to have a lot of money :p ) so I am refering to that game with the baby Mario who went Waa Waa until I was driven to insanity...

Alot of people that hated that element in the game

But it was integral to the game design. Get hurt, you lose Baby Mario. To make sure you don't forget about him, apply an annoying cry so you can find him and shut him up quickly. It was great! It made me play better anyhow... to avoid it

You are right about the Lost Levels of Super Mario Bros. Though, I am not sure it was because they were too hard, or because they thought TLL simply wasn't new and different enough. I believe I have heard both stories over time.

I have always wished they'd make a sequel in spirit to SMB2. I guess we'll never see one, though.

I agree... every Mario game I play I hope to see Mouser, Wart, what-have-you, and everytime I am let down. Shy Guys seem to have been fully integrated, but no one else... I also wish Wario was the villian in one of the non-Gamboy games...

IMO it's getting boring having Bowser at the end of EVERY SINGLE game... I was so let down he was the boss of Mario Sunshine... when I saw the "Mario Clone" I thought for sure it would be Wario, or maybe someone new, but alas it was still Bowser... sigh... (and what happned to his other 7 kids?)
