Mario Party 4: Is it any good?

I'm planning to get this one to play with my girlfriend but IGN only gives it a 6.9

Does somebody own it? I liked MP 1, but is it fun just for two people to play it?

It was pretty good. I've played one game by myself and one with my girlfriend. I'd say it's just as much fun as MP1 was with two people.

Personally I don't think these are that fun unless you have at least three people, but that must just be me...

Mario Party 4 isn't so hot in single player mode. Online play could have made up for this, but Mario Party 4 lacks online play. If you are looking for a party game that is fun for 1 player, check out Whacked! for XBOX if you have it. It was recently released is one of the few party games that is actually fun when you are playing solo, since it has online play. Plus it has dark humor, messed up Ren and Stimpy style "comercials", and is much crazier in general. If you don't have XBOX, I'd hold off for the next Mario Party, which hopefully will implement online play, and therefore be more fun when you are alone.

Seeing Luigi in a drag racer is funny though

MP4 wasn't that bad in single player. I noticed a huge increase in the pacing of the game which helps a lot. It's certainly not the shit in single but it beats picking your ass. (And isn't Whacked! something different? Like some crazy run around shoot people deal? Not exactly the same premise as MP4 if you ask me.)

Well, instead of four players racing around a board game trying to win the game, Whacked! has four players competing in a game show trying to win the big prize. And, although you can shoot people in all the games, there are many different types of games in in Whacked!, like trying to collect 100 stars, trying to frag as many people as you can, trying to stand on the "hot spot" for as long as possible, trying to hold the trophy the longest (sort of like tag), etc. Although there is no board game interface, there is still the wacky multiplayer/party feel, and it has a variety of different types of games you challenge each other in. So, I'd still classify it as a an "action party" game.
