NFL2K3 on PS2- 480p?

Hi all,
I've just picked up NFL2K3 for the PS2, and the manual makes reference to a way to achieve 480p. They say to press the four shape buttons after the "initial video" and a prompt will come up asking for 480p confirmation. Has anyone had any success with this? I can't get the prompt to come up- do you press all the buttons simultaneously?

If the PS2 supports 480p, does this mean that when it plays a DVD it is equivalent to a progressive scan DVD player?
