Lightbulb DESIGN A GAME: Stage II

Well, in last week's installment we voted to create a First Person Shooter. So this week I thought we would do something a little different than a poll, and just brainstorm some concepts. What is the concept behind the game? Whatever the concept, the game MUST be a FPS. We'll take a few of the best ideas and vote on them later. So go ahead and post your best concept for a FPS. A FPS trapped in a haunted house? A FPS travelling the Egyptian underworld? Your decide. Let's have some creative ideas. Be as detailed as possible. We'll work on levels, weapons, and bosses later, but the more detailed you are now, the more likely people are to be inspired later, and also to vote now for you. But no voting in this thread. That comes later.

I always thought making an FPS (First Person Slasher) which starred you as a Serial Killer (like Michael Myers) would be a cool idea (like the movie Brainscan). Watch that movie, and you will catch my drift - it definitely hasn't been done before in games, and based on the popularity of GTA, it would probably sell like hotcakes.

I was thinking something along the lines of an Army of One.

An Earth based Futuristic Soldier (slightly like Halo but more Cybernetic) That is sent on covert missions that ultimately protect the Earth from invasion.
This could take place on multiple alien worlds or Earth, involve Space flights and a myriad of different weapons and vehicles.

I like Runied's idea about the serial killer but to expand on that what about letting you inside the killers mind like in that movie the Cell. So then you could have a really gritty real world setting plus the twisted mind of a serial killer to travel through. When your in the mind of the killer you could battle his personal demons and have cut sceens to show why this man is who he is. It could be one sick game.

I would like one where you play a space explorer, not from Star Wars or anything, a totally seperate universe. There could be like 20-30 different planets you could go to and explore Metroid-like, but on each planet there would be a different race and city structure, and you could interact with all the people like in Morrowind. You would build your character up by searching various dungeon-like places on all the different planets and running errands and such for the alien races... taking bounty's on criminals maybe... In the end, when you're ready and powerful enough, you might take your ship to a previously unknown planet to challange some big baddie...

Another idea I've often had is a sort of "Cops and Robbers" game done in one fully 3D city like Grand Theft Auto, only in this one you can either be a cop, and have to collect clues around town and find the crook and kill him, or be the crook and have to evade the cop. You could have a multi-player and online set-up where one person plays the crook and one the cop, and in this massive metropolis you have to hunt each other down. You can't just wander around either, you have to search logically. You could get a briefing before every level that describes the crooks eating habits, entertainment choices, friends apartments, etc., and you have to find and eliminate him.

Those are my FPS ideas...

Sort of off topic but Moogle's post reminded me of this idea. I think it'd be cool to have a Massively Multiplayer Online game where you can do pretty much anything, with emphasis on 'good guy / bad guy' type play.

It'd be set in a huge city. Everyone would have their own house/apartment and live there basically. You could 'work' to make money and buy stuff for your house. You could also rob other people. Say, you're outside doing something but forgot, or neglected to lock your door. I could sneak in and take whatever I can carry. If I desire to do so, I could haul a truck out there and take the big stuff, like TVs, stereos, etc. But that all comes with a risk of getting caught. Maybe a neighbor saw me and called the police. Maybe a patrol car drove by and saw me 'slim-jimming' your car door.

It would take a lot of work to get it all ironed out but that idea's been floating around in my head for 'quite some time now.'

How about a Western? You could be a gunslinger or a bounty hunter type of guy.

I'm thinking mixing the style of Doom with Time Crisis. How would that work?
Well, lets see, in one hand a controller/keyboard to control the lateral movement, and in the other a LightGun, and when you move your gun to the bottom of the screen it goes down - same for up left right etc... Or would it be better to control head movement with the controller? Sounds complicated.

Me too, I use Both sticks for GTA Vice City and any racing game (right for steer, left for speed). I was thinking this could be an option, otherwise you'd use the right for head movement and the other for lateral movement - like all other FPS.

i would rather have a mouse an keyboard if i had a chouce, but for a console, two control sticks work pretty well

I think I'm odd, I preffer dual analog... just feels better and less of a hassel IMO... of course since the game will never be made, debating the control style seems kind of silly... unless they release a "FPS Maker"... of course technically anyone with a PC and some talent could probably build a level based on what we discuss...
