Metroid Prime Sequel... 2D or 3D?

Got this from another forum, and there was more debate then I thought there would be, so I thought I'd ask here... We're talking about console Metroid by the way, not GBA or anything else.

MP has such a great engine that'd be a shame not to use it again. Too bad there's no way the next game will be as good. It won't be nearly as surprising.

You really think they'll make another one this "generation"?

I think this is the only Metroid game we'll get for GameCube.. considering how long Prime has been in development for. Personally whatever the next one is I'd probably prefer it in 2D.. simply because I prefer those to 3D games anyday.

Me too, although I don't like Fusion as much as Super Metroid, partly because it's hard as hell, and partly because of it's "gimmick", which is odd and very un-Metroid... still a great game though...

I personally like the idea of releasing a 3D and 2D game simultaneously like they did with Prime and Fusion. That puts a longtime Metroid fan like me in hog heaven. Prime will be hard to top though. I'll wait for as long as it takes to re-invent Metroid again. Super Metoid held me for 9 years, (I don't like to think what Metroid would have looked like on the 64) maybe Prime will hold me for another 9.

Anyway I still don't have it (Prime) yet, but both Prime and Fusion are on my Christmas list. In the meantime, I'm playing through an emulated version of Super Metroid with some emulator-provided graphical enhancements. And I'll tell you something...this game is rocking my world all over again. Even after all this time it's still my favorite by far. If you've forgotten why you love videogames, I encourage you to revisit this one.

I would like it in 3d. I think after the intial awkradness of the controls, the MP egine really shined.

The only thing I would hope they would add is the ability to switch to 3rd person perpesctive, like you can do in Jedi Knight 2.
