Xbox More Game Suggestions Needed..

Ok, well I've been renting quite a few games for my 'box and have only bought two (Blinx: The Timesweeper and TimeSplitters 2). Now, due to some serious lack of funds for game buying, I need to narrow down which games I definately must buy and which can be beat in a rental period. These are my choices:

ToeJam & Earl III: Mission to Earth
Splinter Cell (couldn't beat it in a rental period, but if it's still coming to GCN I might wait for that)
Halo
Unreal Championship
The Thing
Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance

Also mind you I don't have Live yet and probably won't be getting it for a few months. I'd appreciate the help -I'd also appreciate any other games which are worth atleast a rental or something. Thanks!

The only puchases in there for my $$$ is Halo and Splinter Cell, but that's because I have MGS2 on the PS2, and that is just fine for me.

Wouldn't Splinter Cell be better on the XBOX by the way? And XBOX Live has downloadable levels... why wait for GCN version?

ToeJam & Earl III: Mission to Earth
-Awesome, if you are a Toejam and Earl fan

Splinter Cell (couldn't beat it in a rental period, but if it's still coming to GCN I might wait for that)
-Why wait for a Gamecube version while the XBOX version has realtime 5.1 and downloadable missions/levels, plus excellent controls and graphics (who knows how this game will be with the gamecube's button layout?)

Halo
-Must buy

Unreal Championship
-Don't buy it until you have Live

The Thing
-Pretty decent survival horror, but get Halo, TJ&E3, MGS2, or Splinter Cell first

Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance
-Cool game, but I'd go with Splinter Cell instead

I'd suggest you check out:
MechAssault
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Project Gotham Racing
Dead or Alive 3
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon
Gunvalkyrie
Genma Onimusha
Serious Sam

ToeJam & Earl III: Mission to Earth, Unreal Championship, The Thing, and Splinter Cell -- never played.

I'd rent Halo first. I beat the single player campaign in a few days and have no interest in going back. I didn't care much for the multiplayer either and since you have Timesplitters 2 I'd definitely pass up Halo.

I'm playing Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance right now and love it. I love the story so far but I don't know how far I am with regards to the end. According to everyone, (I use the term loosely,) it dies a horrible death at the end. I'm still waiting. :p The gameplay is perfect in my opinion. It takes some getting used to but once it's in your head you're ready to kick ass. I love the VR missions too. And the long ass cut scenes are nice. But I'm a patient man.

IIRC you're a Tony Hawk man. If you haven't tried Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 yet, do it. The best in the series, I think. It's also on the Gamecube, (but you probably already knew that.)

ToeJam & Earl III: Mission to Earth - A very good game if you enjoyed the first one for Genesis, but honestly after a rental or two you will have played enough of it.

Splinter Cell- One of the best games I've played in a long time. Easily worth a purchase. A rental won't do it justice.

Halo- If you're a fan of FPS's, this is the best one I've ever played for either 1 player or co-op. The multi player death matches are lacking quite a bit though. Even after you beat it, you'll want to play the 1 player missions over, and over....believe me.

Unreal Championship- Great for multi-player, not so much fun alone unless you have XBOX live. If you're gonna be playing one player go with Halo.

The Thing- Although this game did get good reviews, I honestly did not enjoy it at all. I don't think this game is worth a purchase.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance- Overall great game. However, if you're not worried about the VR missions, the main story can be completed in about two weekend rentals. If you are interested in playing through the VR missions, there is enough there to warrant a purchase. You'll get your $50 worth.

Hope this helps.

I agree. The game actually has an interesting story, but I really didn't find the gameplay enjoyable. I thought Half-Life and even Medal of Honor: Frontline were better, at least for one-player games.

Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance is a pretty nice game. The main story is convoluted (and even annoying), but the gameplay is good (once you get used to the control). The VR/Extra missions are fun and there are alot of them.

Aggressive Inline is also a good extreme sports/trick game. I enjoy it.

The ending ruins the game, not just in story but in gameplay... nasty nasty ending, flat-out ruins the whole experiance, and most people agree. Be aware.

Here is the list of games you should get (in order):

Halo (how can you not have this? :p

Splinter Cell (great game, hard too)

Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance (if you manage to stay away from spoilers and hype for the past year, it is still a worthwhile game to play through.... I am playing it now, I like it, yah, the story isn't the best the game itself is still fun... Plus, all the extra missions mean you will be playing it for a long time!)

ToeJam & Earl 3 (good game if you like the original)

Unreal Championship (only get this if you are getting Live)

The Thing (why bother?)
