I plugged the old boy in earlier today and played some Zelda: OoT, Zelda: MM, Mario 64, and others, and damn are they fucking ugly. I can play SNES just fine, loving the Zelda, Mario, Metroid, and Castlevania games on that, but these 64 games are blocky, fuzzy graphics, bad sounds, and horrible control (compared to the new pads anyway). I mean, I guess it wasn't that bad, but really the hazy non-defined graphics bugged me the most... I just couldn't keep playing!
Anyone else have this problem? And what the hell's the solution? Hopefully I'll get a copy of the Zelda games on Gamecube, but the others may be lost to me ![]() |

I honestly have no problem with it. I've been playing Pokemon Stadium every once in a while and occasionally I'll try to start up Zelda:OOT again.
Depending on the game though, I can't play on my shitty 19" TV. Since I bought the new one I put it in my room so to play, (I have N64 #2 hooked up to that one using an RF converter,) I have to lie (or lye no, lie) in bed, thus increasing the distance between my face and the TV.I can barely play Goldeneye and Zelda:OOT anymore on that TV but my new one I have no problem with. |

What's funny is I remember being amazed by some of those graphics especially with the jump pack.
I remember the first Turok jump pack game being really nice looking. The other day I was in someone's house and their kid was playing N64 and I couldn't believe how bad the graphics were. I guess you just get used to looking at the new stuff for so long that it makes the old stuff look that much worse. |

Man, I thought I was the only one like this. I honestly don't play N64 except for GoldenEye once in awhile.. out of all the other games I have the graphics are just so blocky and just a big mess. I sometime get sick just for looking at them. Weird.

Persoanlly, I have no problem playing them. I dunno, graphics just aren't as important to me as a fun game.

Well, grapics are not the most important thing, and like I said, I can still play and love SNES games, but the N64 seems to have a particular fuzy type look which, now that I'm used to clear polygons, looks very yucky. Maybe there are games that are better, but the Zelda games in particular just look like someone threw water on the screen or something... just nasty.

I still have my N64 hooked up and I play Zelda every once in awhile. But to me it's Nintendo's worst system. I'm hoping to get a gamecube for christmas and I've played my friends and it was much better. I think the N64 might have turned some people off of Nintendo. Hopefully this system will hold up better with age.

Solaris indeed has the best graphics on the 2600 (IMO).... And that game is pretty complicated too! I never get too far into it but maybe one day... Hmmmm i should check gamefaqs hehehe!
What's the name of that Activision game where you are on North Pole and you jump from ice floating on a river back and forth? Love that game, and Megamania! |

Dragon Stomper and Mindbender (Which was 3D and ahead of it's time) were some of the best graphically. |

I don't have issues with my N64. Blasting through my Japanese import of Sin and Punishment, my breath is constantly taken away at what was being pumped by the system. It was a difficult system to develop for and only at the end of its short lifespan were developers finally getting the hang of it.
When I look upon old games I don't think to myself "Holy crap that game looks like SHIT!", I tend to think "Far out! We've come a long way from this!" Polygons don't mean anything to me. I tend to look at the game 'production art design' which impress me much more. Sin and Punishment is testament to that.

I actually think the SuperNES 16-bit graphics look better than a few N64 games.
A lot of the N64 titles suffered from murky and blurry textures. Yet if you look at a lof of pics for the old SNES games (like Actraiser, Super Mario Wolrd), you'll notice how colorful and vibrant they appear. It's like thinking of the SNES as the advanced stage of 2-D sprites whereas the N64 was the more primitive stage of polygons. Even Mario64, which I thought was gorgeous before, looks so simplistic and bare by today's standards.

Yes. . . I mostly skipped a generation of consoles because the graphics & gameplay didn't do much to excite me. . . N64/PSX specifically. I never really saw a Saturn at play but I didn't get over the SNES/Genesis feud until Dreamcast came out anyway.
For me, I guess it either has to be 16bit/GBA graphics that aren't trying to be realistic as possible but capture a good deal of fun or more recent, more capable systems like Dreamcast/Gamecube which offer a lot more "realism" but also have graphics to back it up. |

Moogle--You're defintely not the only one that has this problem. I remeber the fuzzines being a real issue for some in its hey day, becoming a major con in comparisons with the other machines of its generation. No doubt the Game Cube's design included a larger effort towards correcting this problem.

![]() The Saturn has so many good games, and the PSX have some truly ground breaking games. To be honest with you, I feel how you felt with THIS generation of systems... Simply sequels and rehashes! |
