Splinter Cell extras for PS2

From GameSpot.

Ubi Soft has announced that it will be adding a number of new features to the PlayStation 2 version of Splinter Cell. The game will feature an all-new binocular-vision headset, four new levels in the power plant area, 30 additional minutes of cinematics, and a new four-minute intro with music performed by the Prague Orchestra. Ubi Soft also has plans for Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell to support Dolby Pro Logic II sound.
The PlayStation 2 version of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell is scheduled for release in late March.

Sounds cool. Can't wait!

Yeah, and the graphics on the PS2 version won't be as good either (they still look great though).

I heard the graphics on the PS2 version didn't take much of a hit actually. All of the major game websites and publications are saying that the awesome lighting effects are still in place on the PS2. This game will sell a ton now that it's coming out for ps2 and then eventually on gamecube in May.

And we'll be able to download those levels, too.

Eh, I'd still rather have the Xbox version over any others.

Ditto on that one, as goes for 99.99% of other games out too

I've got this game for XBox and I might be picking it up now for PS2. I love this game, it was my favorite game for last year. Shit, I might pick it up on PC to! I just love it. It'll be cool to see the new start and video. Even though the graphics wouldn't be as good it'll still be a really good game.

I'm going to buy it for the PS2. I don't have a Xbox and don't really want one. Halo is coming out this summer for the PC and Splinter Cell is coming to the other consoles and PC. The Star Wars RPG is coming out on PC this fall.

The only game that will not be on the PC that is xbox exclusive that I would like to have is Halo 2. But there are a ton of other FPS on the PC that I can play.

If they can make a couple bucks on a quick-and-dirty port, why not?

Hey, I guess if you can wait a year and a half for it, then why not. Maybe that'll get people excited enough to fork over the money for when Halo 2 comes out this holiday season.

I've read that they've actually done a lot of work to make it a kickass port. Revamped everything. Which makes me consider checking it out...online multiplayer would be godly...

Speaking of online multiplayer, according to the latest OXM, they heard that Ubisoft will be releasing a Splinter Cell Online for XBOX, that will feature online multiplayer through XBOX Live. However, this is not official yet.

More news from Computerandvideogames.com.

Click the link for more of the interview with Ubi Soft...

One of the obvious draws of the Xbox version was the staggering technical achievement you made, notably in lighting. What can we expect from the visual side of the PS2 and GC versions?

Doat: The same! We spent four months before starting the production to push our engine and the PS2 hardware to its extreme in order the stay in line with the Splinter Cell core essence: the light and shadow system. We have dynamic, real time, interactive light and shadow, real time reflection on characters - we have it all. This was our ambition at the very beginning: we would only start the project if we could achieve this on the PS2 and GC.

How long have the PS2 and GC versions been in development?

Doat: We started in Shanghai with a very small group of PlayStation 2 experts coming from the China studio but also from 3 other Ubi Soft studios in February 2002. We worked on the prototype to prove that we could reach our goal before starting the production.

This keeps looking better and better!

Halo for PC is online, that's why I can't wait for it. Plus the graphics engine has been revamped. They are basically remaking the game for the PC. Halo 2 will be Xbox exclusive.

Splinter Cell is going to rock on the PS2. I would get it for the gamecube but it's not coming out until may for some reason so I'll be picking up the PS2 version.
