Xbox Kakuto Chojin recalled

From Gamespot :

Quote:
GameSpot has learned that Kakuto Chojin, DreamFactory's Xbox fighting game, has been recalled from store shelves in Japan and North America. Microsoft of Japan has told several news outlets that the reason for the recall stems from religious references made throughout the game that could be seen as offensive.
For those that have played or own the title, was there anything that you might have seen as offensive?

One of the kickboxer's lines is "Beating me is against God's will..."

"According to a Microsoft Japan representative, the game was recalled "due to sensitive religious issues"—one of the background musical pieces uses passages from the Koran, the holy book of the Islamic religion. The Koran is believed by Muslims to contain the exact words God spoke to the prophet Muhammad, so using its passages in non-religious subtexts like video-game music is heavily frowned upon."

I know exactly what track they are talking about... It's the one on the kickboxer's stage I just mentioned. Also seems to be some chanting in the music of the boss' stage.

Because it's a techno song that just sounds like its using chanting in a different language as a sample - it just happens to be that the chanting was sacred.

You should. The fighting engine is excellent, and the music is awesome. Being that you love DOA3 despite its lack of extras, you will likely also love this game, as it is similar in nature - just a hardcore fighter with the fighting engine as virtually the whole game.

I posted this at the Xbox forums at xengamers and it seems everyone hates the game. What makes it so good Ruined?

(BTW, this may sound like a bash... it's not, I just couldn't word it any better. Just curious is all.)

Well, the reason everyone hates it is for likely a combination of a number of reasons. First of all the interface and presentation of the game is decidedly B-grade. Second, there is nothing to the game except fighting - no real unlockable extras aside from a new moveset for each character. Most importantly, the moveset that has all the cool combos (Chojin) is not unlocked until you beat the game with that character. To make things worse, the game does not tell you what the moves are for the Chojin moveset - you either have to find the moves yourself, check online, or buy the strategy guide. Plus, the control setup of the game is radically different than other fighting games. So, most people who buy the game only know of the watered-down moveset that seems somewhat alien to them due to different than the norm controls, and probably were turned off by the game's poor presentation and lack of features.

That being said, the fighting engine is pretty kickass. All of the moves/combos are relatively realistic - no fireballs, no flying up in the air, no teleportation, no super weapons, etc. The way your opponent reacts to blows, the way you evade, etc all look and feel very convincing. Kakuto Chojin also does a spectacular job of allowing you to move around the 3D plane while still keeping your attack focused on the other player.

This game becomes really cool once you get into the groove, and learn the way the game works, which is notably different than most other fighting games - I've been favoring Kakuto Chojin over Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance (beat KC with nearly every character, haven't even beat MK: DA with more than one yet), simply because it feels more responsive and seems more realistic. Worth picking up IMO, for a fan of fighting games... I gave MK: DA a higher rating, though, because it is clear there is more game to it, despite my preference of the KC fighting engine. A casual gamer would definitely get more out of MK: DA.

P.S. -- The music in this game kicks ass too!
