Thanks for the pics!

Between this, Doom3, and Deux Ex 2, PC gamers are going to have a banner year in terms of game sequals. Let's hope there's also some unknown/non-sequal games that come out of the woodwork and 0wn (S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is looking pretty, for example).

I think I am now looking forward to this more than doom3... very nice screens, they have a real sense of depth to them

I'm a card carrying member of the id Software fan club so I really want to get my hands on Doom, but HL2 looks great. I don't think there are many single player FPS games that are as immersive as HL. I couldn't stop playing that game the week I bought it. It just kept going!

Even though I never got into Half-Life, I am still excited about those screens... they just look cool! Can't wait to eventually play it on Xbox...

Look at that fucking water! Those fucking shadows! I guarantee it will have a better plot than "run away from scary monster"(still cool) Doom.
Unfortunately, the Elite Force 2 demo is running a but sluggish for me. Not a good sign.

Apparently it's already in the works for Xbox and more than likely PS2 and Cube. At least according to IGN.

But I can't wait to play this game on my PC

This and Deus EX 2 are going to own this fall!

Doom 3 will be awesome too, but I still don't think it will come out this year.

Knights of the Old republic should be awesome too!

Great year for PC gamers!

I love the first pic. There's a great sense of atmosphere, and I love the water shot too. I doubt I'll get to see this and Doom III anytime soon though, unless I go for a major upgrade.

Ditto. Using the first Half Life as reference, I'll be able to play HL2 in low resolution and choppy framerate in 2008. I can barely play HL1 in 800x600 now.

Really? What kind of PC do you have? You shouldn't be having that much trouble with Quake 1 engine stuff if your PC was built in the last 3 years (at least). It plays great on my P3-600 and GF2 GTS card.

And yes, before the arguing starts, HL is the Q1 engine at heart, not Q2 as many people think. That's why it was so easy for Valve to put out Deathmatch Classic (remake of Q1 deathmatch in the HL engine).

Oh, back on topic: what kind of PC do you have?

An AMD K6/2 475, 256 MBs RAM (last time I played any games I had 128 though), and a 32 MB PCI graphics card.

I mean, it is playable but at times is choppy as hell in 800x600.

Somebody call Columbia Tristar, someone stole the arachnids from Starship Troopers. Oh, Halo wants their infected men back.
:p

Looks good, but I'm not that overly wowed by the graphics. It doesn't appear to be that much more advanced from what is currently available. Of course, HL wasn't about graphics, it was about gameplay, story, and the AI.

Starship troopers (game and movie)

Halo (Xbox game) - Flood infected

Yeah, a K6/2 is a bit tough.

Frighteningly enough, I actually saw a PCI version of the GF-FX 5200 at Best Buy. That will get you some more frames over your current video card, but of course don't expect miracles, as your processor will then become a fierce bottleneck.

I think the screenies of HL2 are great. There's an awesome one floating about with a gargantuan creature with spindly legs advancing on a town. Looks like something out of War of the Worlds.

The graphics won't bring current computers to their knees, but neither did the first HL. If you want your computer to cry out for help, you'll have Doom3 soon enough.

My old PC was an AMD K6-2 350mhz, with 96Mb of Ram, with 4Mb on video ram and it ran Half Life fine. I always played at 800 x 600. Try it again and see if you can get a better performance out of it.
