Half Life 2, anyone?
I'm surprised no one's talking about Half Life 2 for the PC (maybe I missed a thread somewhere? If I did, please delete this one.)
I just finished watching the 616MB, 22:40 minute trailer from FilePlanet; hands down, the most impressive game engine I've ever seen demonstrated on any platform, PC or console. Doom III may have the edge graphically, but for immersive gameplay, HL2 looks to be the true must-have game. I sorta overlooked the article in this month's PC Gamer, but after seeing the trailer, I'm going to revisit it.

Yeah there were a few threads back when the first screens came out. This game is going to be so awesome. Probably the front runner for game of the year. I've read some reviews of people that played it at E3 and they said it's going to turn the game industry on it's head.

I'm downloading the 500MB Fileplanet video right now. The IGN vids were awesome, and I'm hoping this one will add to it.
As for which version I'll get, most likely it'll be the PC version. Playing it on a console just wouldn't... seem right. Can't explain. |

I played the original HL for sometime, but coming from the Quake community my time was short lived with the game. Since then, I have never really returned to HL. Say the HL movie at E3 and while it was impressive, I really do not have this game on my list of future purchases. Valve continues to gravytrain off the mods it continues to buy. Guess we will have to see what this game holds when it is released.

If you enjoy video games it should be on your list to buy. Valve doesn't gravytrain mods it continues to buy. Sierra does. They usually hire another team to develop the expansion packs such as Opposing Force. Counter Strike and Day of Defeat or the only two packs that have been released that were developed by internet gamers and released as mods for free first. Also everyone that played the game said how it's going to revolutionize videogames just as the 1st half life did with 1st person shooters. |

I just finished watching the 600+ meg movie. Man...speechless, as mentioned above, hands down the most impressive game engine I've ever seen. Blows Doom III outta the water IMO, from what I've seen anyway...D3 may be shiny, but it's most likely gonna be a run and gunner...HL2...just damn. Those physics are incredible...
...looks like another upgrade in my future. ![]() |

The great thing about the engine is how scaleable it is. I read in Computer Gaming World and PC Gamer that it will run smoothly (with varying levels of graphical detail, of course) on anything from the latest P4 with a Radeon 9800 to a P3 733 with a much older video card.
