LOTR: Treason Of Isengard Cancelled

LOTR: Treason Of Isengard Cancelled

By: D. F. Smith September 12, 2003 5:10 PM PDT
Lord of the Rings: The Treason of Isengard for PlayStation 2 and Xbox, the second multiplatform RPG based on the celebrated J.R.R. Tolkien novels (if not the film adaptations thereof), has been cancelled, publisher Vivendi Universal Games announced today. The game, says Vivendi, was not on track to meet the level of quality expected by followers of the popular license.
Surreal Software's first game in the series, last year's Fellowship of the Ring, met with a generally negative critical and commercial reception, but its successor was looking better. The planned game design promised a much more open-ended and varied experience than Electronic Arts' movie-licensed Lord of the Rings games, with a wide selection of playable characters and scenarios from the novels.

Things were apparently not going so well on the inside, however, and Vivendi has cut its losses on the title. It remains to be seen what Vivendi will do in the future with its license to Tolkien's novels.

I never cared much for the original, it had some major gameplay issues to me. However, I was interested to see how much they could improve this sequel. It seemed to be a huge step forward.

since this looked better im a little disappointed, but since i think there was much from Fellowship that was in the movie that was in Vivendi game, like good old Tom, but with Two Towers theres not really much stuff like that so its not that big of a deal
